Get Serious overcomes adversity in Red Bank

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Get Serious turned in one of the gutsiest efforts of his career Sunday to win the Grade 3, $197,500 Red Bank Stakes on the turf at Monmouth Park.

Nothing went his way, and yet the 6-year-old New York-bred gelding prevailed by a neck over Nownownow for his third graded stakes win of the meet before 16,017 on a spectacular early fall afternoon on the Jersey Shore.

Get Serious stumbled badly at the break. He quickly recovered, but that miscue let At the Disco seize the lead.

Lethal Combination's late move does the trick in Saranac

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Given how speed-favoring the turf at Saratoga had become, trainer Kiaran McLaughlin wasn’t loving where Lethal Combination was in the early stages of Sunday’s $100,000 Saranac Stakes.

Until he saw the fractions, that is.

Fiscal Policy proves wise investment

Fiscal Policy justified her favoritism Saturday at River Downs when she drew off to a 6 1/4-length triumph in the $50,000 Bassinet Stakes.

With Rex Stokes aboard, Fiscal Policy dueled three wide with two other fillies down the backstretch in the six-furlong Bassinet, then began edging clear after turning for home to easily prevail. She returned $4.20 after finishing in 1:13.40 over a fast track.

“I asked my filly for some run, and she won with plenty in the tank,” said Stokes.
