INGLEWOOD, Calif. – The three horses who finished in front of Clearance Clarence in the Grade 1 Norfolk Stakes at Hollywood Park on Oct. 2 – Jaycito, J P’s Gusto, and Riveting Reason – are entered in Saturday’s $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. − Three times in his career, Apollitical Jess has been the fastest qualifier for a major Quarter Horse race. He held that honor for the Los Alamitos Two Million last December and the All American Derby at Ruidoso Downs in September but finished second in the final of those races.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. Indian Gracey was to be scratched from the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies on Friday because of soreness in her right front foot, trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said Thursday morning.

Hollendorfer first noticed the problem on Wednesday morning, but wanted to wait a day to see if the filly responded to treatment. At the time, Hollendorfer thought there was a chance she would respond and make the race. But by Thursday morning, he realized he was running out of time, and decided to pass.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Impossible Time will stretch out to 1 1/4 miles Saturday at Woodbine in the Maple Leaf Stakes, which has also lured the versatile European filly Pachattack. The $175,000 Maple Leaf heads an excellent 11-race Breeders’ Cup Day card that commences at 1 p.m.

Impossible Time has only lost once in six starts at the meet, which was a runner-up finish in the seven-furlong Zadracarta Stakes on the grass. She won each of her last three starts at 1 1/16 miles – an optional claimer, the Victoriana Stakes on turf, and the Classy ‘N Smart Stakes.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - The Ralph Biamonte-trained duo of Citius and Altius ran one-two in the $127,000 Frost King Stakes on Wednesday night at Woodbine.

Citius ($21.20) won his maiden in the seven-furlong sprint for Ontario-sired 2-year-olds, after rallying inside from last under apprentice Omar Moreno. He split horses in mid-stretch, and then hit the front nearing the sixteenth pole en route to a head victory, in a time of 1:23.37.

If her debut was any indication, Justenufappeal has a good chance to live up to the expectations trainer Steve Specht had when he bought her for $150,000 at the 2009 Keeneland September yearling sale.

“She cost the most at a sale of any horse I ever had,” Specht said.

Justenufappeal won her debut here on Oct. 2, sitting off the pace and rallying four wide on the turn to win a 5 1/2-furlong Tapeta maiden race by a half-length. Specht is running her back Saturday in an ambitious spot – the $50,000 Golden Gate Debutante at Golden Gate Fields.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The connections of Gio Ponti made the Breeders’ Cup Classic their first preference over the Breeders’ Cup Mile when pre-entries for the races were taken last week. Their decision to run in the Mile gives racing fans their first preference: Gio Ponti versus Goldikova.

Gio Ponti’s presence means that if Goldikova is to become the first three-time Breeders’ Cup winner, she must beat the best horse she has faced in the United States.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. − A year ago, Girolamo was ambitiously placed in the Breeders’ Cup Classic over a synthetic surface at Santa Anita that obviously was not to his liking. He finished 12th and last at 25-1 behind Zenyatta. On Saturday, Girolamo returns in the Breeders’ Cup, this time in a more suitable spot − over a conventional dirt course and as the 7-2 morning-line favorite in the $2 million Sprint.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – If the horses running in Saturday’s Grade 2, $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf were merely the ones who competed in the Grade 3 Pilgrim Stakes at Belmont last month, Kiaran McLaughlin, the trainer of Pilgrim runner-up Soldat, said he could feel good about his horse’s chances.
