Turbulent Descent sharpens for Las Virgenes

ARCADIA, Calif. – Turbulent Descent was described by trainer Mike Puype as “totally ready” for her 3-year-old debut in Saturday’s $250,000 Las Virgenes Stakes at Santa Anita after her final prerace workout at Hollywood Park on Sunday.

The unbeaten winner of three starts last year, the most recent of which was the Grade 1 Hollywood Starlet Stakes on Dec. 11, Turbulent Descent will be heavily favored in the Grade 1 Las Virgenes, which is run over a mile.

The score came following his October win in the $150,000 Remington Park Green.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark.- Native Ruler indicated he might be sitting on his best Oaklawn Park season yet on Saturday, when, in his first start since September, he edged a wall of horses by a neck to win the $50,000 King Cotton.

“Don’t ask me why, but at 7-years-old he’s as good as he’s ever been,” said Chris Richard, who trains Native Ruler for Maggi Moss.

Making his stakes debut on the surface, Caracortado rallied from fifth in the final three furlongs to win the restricted race for California-breds and Florida-breds by a half-length over the two-time Grade 1 winner The Usual Q.T., who led in the stretch.

Tackleberry pulls off $56 stunner in Sunshine Millions Classic
