Woodbine: Oregon Lady brings streak into stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Oregon Lady takes a three-race win streak into her stakes debut Saturday at Woodbine in the $300,000 Nassau. She is one three Roger Attfield-trained runners in the Grade 2 turf route, along with champion Miss Keller and Mekong Melody.

Oregon Lady was just a promising maiden last spring, but she has turned the corner this year at age 4.

“She always looked like a real star, but I could never get her on any sort of program,” Attfield recalled. “She was a very backward, long, late-maturing filly. She’s doing really, really well now.”

Thistledown: Caleb's Posse fresh for Ohio Derby

Caleb’s Posse ran in every 3-year-old stakes at Oaklawn Park this winter, winning the Smarty Jones and finishing second in the Rebel while not faring nearly as well in the Southwest and Arkansas Derby. That full dance card led trainer Donnie Von Hemel to back off a bit once the Oaklawn meet ended in mid-April.

Woodbine: Inglorious tops field of nine in Woodbine Oaks

Inglorious has been installed as the 5-2 morning-line favorite for Sunday’s Woodbine Oaks.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Inglorious, who got back in the groove with an emphatic score in the 1 1/16-mile La Lorgnette here May 15, has been made the 5-2 morning-line choice for Sunday’s $500,000 Woodbine Oaks.

A field of nine was entered Thursday when the ceremonial draw for the Woodbine Oaks, the 1 1/8-mile race that is the premier test for Canadian-bred 3-year-old fillies, took place at the WEGZ Stadium Bar in nearby Vaughan.

Inglorious, who is owned by Donna and Vern Dubinsky and is trained by Josie Carroll, drew the No. 3 post.

Northlands: Lit’sgoodlookngray just to repeat last

Lit’sgoodlookngray figures to be a short price to win his second straight race when he runs in Saturday’s feature at Northlands Park. Trained by Robertino Diodoro, Lit’sgoodlookngray is coming right back for the same price, $17,500, and distance, six furlongs, that he won at May 21. The horse he will likely have to catch in the seven-horse field of older horses is Robo Willie.

Prairie Meadows: 3-year-olds tune up for Festival in two stakes

ALTOONA, Iowa – The $60,000 Panthers for 3-year-old fillies and the $60,000 Prairie Mile for 3-year-old males on Saturday night at Prairie Meadows, provide an opportunity for those considering a start in the Iowa Oaks or Iowa Derby to race a mile around two turns.

On paper, both events appear extremely deep.

The Panthers, which drew seven hopefuls for the Grade 3 Iowa Oaks on June 25, is led by Awesome Symmetry and Joe Ja, both impressive winners here this season.

Hastings: Tall order for Burnin' Britches in Emerald Downs Cap

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Burnin’ Britches will get a serious class test when she runs in the $50,000 Emerald Downs at Hastings Saturday. The 6 1/2-furlong sprint for 3-year-old fillies drew six horses and goes as race 6 on the seven-race card. The last race goes at 4:20 p.m. Pacific, which should give local hockey fans plenty of time to get home to watch the Vancouver Canucks take on the Boston Bruins in the second game of the Stanley Cup Final. Hastings went with seven races because of the 5 p.m. start of the hockey game.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – When the Churchill Downs Stakes was contested four Saturdays ago on the Kentucky Derby undercard, a number of horses ran very well – but not quite well enough – in the Grade 2 race won by Aikenite in a frantic finish.

Now comes the Grade 3 Aristides at Churchill, and a handful of those horses are back. The question becomes this. Which one will improve enough to prevail?
