Northlands Park: Salt Flat Speed has much going for him in Sun Sprint

Despite losing to Midtown Bullet in an optional $40,000 claiming race Aug. 20, Salt Flat Speed is clearly the one to beat in the $50,000 Sun Sprint Championship at Northlands Park on Saturday. The 6 1/2-furlong sprint for 3-year-olds and up drew six horses and most of the arrows point to Salt Flat Speed as the winner.

Desormeaux charged with reckless endangerment at Saratoga; taken off Thursday mount

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Hall of Fame jockey Kent Desormeaux was not permitted by the stewards to ride at Saratoga Thursday following his Wednesday arrest by Saratoga police in which he was charged with reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor, after nearly hitting a Pinkerton with his car following the races.

"Mr. Desormeaux will not be riding based on the events of the last 24 hours," said Lee Park, a spokesman for the New York State Racing and Wagering Board.

Kid Kate remains perfect at Saratoga by taking Lady Tak

Kid Kate draws clear late in the stretch under Eddie Castro to capture the Lady Tak.

Kid Kate maintained her perfect record at Saratoga by rallying from well off the pace to win Wednesday’s $75,000 Lady Tak Stakes by one length over Moontune Missy.

Under Eddie Castro, Kid Kate settled into fourth position behind Moontune Missy, Katey Now, and Christine Daae.

She swung four wide into the stretch, then ran down Moontune Missy in the final 50 yards to get the victory, her fourth in as many starts at the Spa.

Saratoga: Bold Warrior targets Smarty Jones at Parx

Bold Warrior, who finished last in the Curlin Stakes in his first attempt around two turns, will be given a chance to redeem himself in a route race when he starts in Monday’s $300,000 Smarty Jones Stakes going 1 1/16 miles at Parx Racing.

Alan Garcia will ride Bold Warrior because Jose Lezcano, his regular rider, is committed to ride in the Hopeful.

On Wednesday, Garcia guided Bold Warrior through a seven-furlong workout in 1:27.06, going his opening half-mile in 49.10 seconds and his last three-eighths in 37.56 seconds. He galloped out a mile in 1:41.43.
