Saratoga: Havre de Grace's next target will be Beldame at Belmont

The filly Havre de Grace earned a career-best 111 Beyer Speed Figure for her win over males in Saturday's Woodward.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Havre de Grace came out of her victory over males in Saturday’s Grade 1 Woodward Stakes in good order and will more than likely  make her next start in the Grade 1, $350,000 Beldame Stakes against females on Oct. 1 at Belmont Park, trainer Larry Jones said Sunday.

 Havre de Grace won the Woodward by 1 1/4 lengths over Suburban winner and Whitney runner-up Flat Out. In becoming the second female to win the Woodward - Rachel Alexandra was the other - Havre de Grace ran 1 1/8 miles in 1:49.18 and earned a career-best 111 Beyer Speed Figure.

Remington Park: Pleasantly Blessed scores as favorite in Ricks Memorial

Pleasantly Blessed gave trainer Steve Asmussen and jockey Luis Quinonez a sweep of the weekend stakes at Remington Park on Saturday night, when she closed for a three-quarter-length win in the $50,000 Ricks Memorial. Asmussen and Quinonez had teamed together on Friday night to take the $100,000 DeBartolo Memorial with Skip a Smile.

Remington Park: Shoot It’s War lands in easier spot

Shoot It’s War was scratched from Friday night’s $100,000 DeBartolo Memorial Handicap at Remington Park, and will headline the Monday feature at the track. He goes in a second-level optional $35,000 claiming race for 3-year-olds and up at 1 1/16 miles on turf. The race will go as the ninth on a program that has a special post of 1:30 p.m. Central.

Shoot It’s War will be seeking his second straight win following a nose score in an optional $25,000 claiming race at Canterbury Park on Aug. 6. Quincy Hamilton has the mount for trainer Mike Biehler.

Louisiana Downs: Can’touchthisgal improving on turf

Can’touchthisgal has stepped up her game since she began racing on turf back in May, and on Monday at Louisiana Downs she could get her first win on the surface. Can’touchthisgal will start as a top choice in the seventh race, a first-level optional $12,000 claimer for Louisiana-bred fillies and mares. To be run at about 1 1/16 miles, it is one of four turf races on a special holiday program Monday.

Columbus: Slight edge to Bach's Homebrew in talented Labor Day field

Bach’s Homebrew may rate a slight edge in a talent-filled five-horse field for the $10,000 Labor Day Stakes at the Columbus Races on Monday.

Honkytonk Stomp equaled the track record for a half-mile at Fonner Park this past spring and will represent just one of the strong speed horses in the field. He will have to contend with the talented 3-year-old Song of Humor, a winner of seven straight races this year.

Bach’s Homebrew has won five stakes this year and is a certified closer, as is Omaha Stakes runner-up Tenth Power.
