Woodbine: Welloiledmachine shows a little bit of his father in Vice Regent Stakes

Welloiledmachine, a son of Mobil, wins Saturday’s Vice Regent Stakes at Woodbine.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Christine Windsor fell head over heels for Mobil when grooming that horse for owner/breeder Gustav Schickedanz and trainer Mike Keogh.

But after Mobil wound up his highly successful racing career and headed off to the breeding shed, Windsor eventually went in search of a surrogate and found it in the form of the horse who would become known as Welloiledmachine.

Woodbine: Dance With Gretch goes for three in a row

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Dance With Gretch seeks her third straight victory in Ontario-sired company Wednesday night at Woodbine in a competitive allowance route for nonwinners of three.

Dance With Gretch was along for fourth when she debuted June 30, an encouraging effort that set her up nicely for another 1 1/16-mile maiden special July 23, which she won with ease after closing from fifth.

He shipped in and made off with the Grade 2, $250,000 Del Mar Derby on Sunday, but he had to fight every inch of the stretch to outfinish a stubborn Midnight Interlude and win by a nose.

Llano Teller surpasses $1 million in career earnings by taking the $1.3 million All American Derby for Quarter Horses.

Llano Teller enhanced his standing among the nation’s top 3-year-old Quarter Horses on Sunday, when he powered to a half-length win over Prospect to the Top in the Grade 1, $1,317,015 All American Derby at Ruidoso Downs. It was his fifth win at the New Mexico meet that closes Monday. During the season, Llano Teller also took the Grade 1, $700,000 Ruidoso Derby.

Timonium: Rapid Redux records 16th consecutive victory

Rapid Redux improves to 14 for 14 in 2011 with his 16th consecutive win since last December in a starter allowance route Sunday at Timonium.

Rapid Redux, a 5-year-old gelding based at Penn National Race Course with trainer David Wells, extended his winning streak to 16 races Sunday by taking the eighth race at Timonium.

In winning for the 14th time this season and 16th time since his streak began last December at his home track, Rapid Redux joined all-time greats Citation and Cigar as Thoroughbreds who have won 16 in a row. The mares Zenyatta and Pepper’s Pride share the North American record of 19 straight.

Saratoga: Inexperience proves no problem for Grace Hall in Spinaway

Grace Hall, making just the second start of her career, captures the Grade 1 Spinaway for 2-year-old fillies.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Watching Grace Hall train in the weeks following her debut win at Delaware Park gave trainer Tony Dutrow the feeling that running her in Sunday’s Grade 1 Spinaway at Saratoga was the right thing to do even though she had just the one start.

 “We knew there was a lot of risk here, we knew we were in deep water,’’ Dutrow said. “I was led to believe to take the chance today; everybody supported me and here we are.’’
