Parboo had won the Grade 1 Vosburgh with Giant Ryan earlier in the afternoon at Belmont Park.

Belmont: Flat Out scores convincingly in Jockey Club Gold Cup

ELMONT, N.Y. - Flat Out may not have run as fast as Uncle Mo or won by as wide a margin as Havre de Grace, but he won the most coveted prize on Belmont Park's Super Saturday card - the $750,000 Jockey Club Gold Cup - in convincing fashion, paying his way into the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic at Churchill Downs next month.

Parx Racing: Plum Pretty bounces back in Cotillion

The rematch between Plum Pretty and It’s Tricky turned out to be no match at all, with Plum Pretty running away to a 7 1/2- length victory in the Grade 2, $750,000 Cotillion Stakes on Saturday at Parx Racing.

It’s Tricky had beaten Plum Pretty by three-quarters of a length in the Coaching Club American Oaks on July 23 at Saratoga, then finished second there to Plum Pretty’s fading fourth in the Alabama Stakes, but Plum Pretty decisively turned the tables Saturday.

Hoosier Park: Wilburn cuts corner to blow open Indiana Derby

ANDERSON, Ind. – Wilburn moved through a rail opening at a critical time and proceeded to draw away from Shackleford down the stretch to post a 4 3/4-length victory Saturday in the 17th running of the Grade 2, $510,900 Indiana Derby at Hoosier Park.

Giving jockey Julien Leparoux a sweep of the both the Oaks and Derby, Wilburn returned $7.20 as third choice in a field of seven 3-year-olds. Leparoux also captured the previous race on a 12-race card, the Grade 2 Indiana Oaks, aboard Juanita.

Woodbine: Casse sets track record with 90th win of meet

ETOBICOKE, Ontario — Mark Casse broke the Woodbine record for most training wins in a year when he sent out Masked Maiden  to capture Saturday’s 10th race.

Masked Maiden made her way through traffic in the stretch under Omar Moreno to prevail by a nose, giving Casse his 90th win at the meet. The late Frank Passero Jr. set the previous record in 1995.

ELMONT, N.Y. - The connections of Giant Ryan were already planning to put up the $100,000 supplemental fee to run their New York-bred in the Breeders' Cup Sprint even before he entered the starting gate for Saturday's Grade 1, $350,000 Vosburgh Invitational at Belmont Park.

Giant Ryan's gate-to-wire victory in the Vosburgh against a Breeders' Cup Sprint-quality field only confirmed that they had made the right decision.

Finger Lakes: Belmont-based filly Wildcat's Smile upsets New York Breeders' Futurity

Wildcat’s Smile became the first filly to win the New York Breeders’ Futurity at Finger Lakes since 2003 when she closed strongly in deep stretch to blow past dueling leaders French Wine and Bay Park Boy.

Facing colts and geldings after she settled for second as the 1-5 favorite in the Lady Finger on Labor Day, Wildcat’s Smile ($14.40) came from far off the pace to win the richest race of the season at the western New York track. She completed six furlongs on a sloppy, sealed track in 1:12.65 to earn $156,532 of the $260,888 purse.
