Thistledown: Best of Ohio Endurance among stakes triple for Scott Spieth

Thats a Heckofacat defeated defending champion Catlaunch in the $75,000 Best of Ohio Endurance, the centerpiece of the five-race Best of Ohio series for Ohio-breds on Saturday at Thistledown.

Thats a Heckofacat responded with a quick move on the second turn while angling out around the pacesetting Catlaunch, then drew off to a 4 1/4-length victory under Scott Spieth, one of the jockey’s three wins in Saturday’s stakes.

It was 3 1/2  lengths back to Bold Captain.

Belmont Park: Castro being kept in hospital for observation

ELMONT, N.Y. - Jockey Eddie Castro was listed in stable condition at a Long Island hospital Saturday afternoon and was able to move all of his extremities following a spill in Saturday’s fourth race at Belmont Park.

Castro was to remain in North Shore University Hospital overnight for further tests, according to New York Racing Association officials. X-rays taken on his neck were negative.

Belmont Park: Denomination shows she still has it with Athenia score

ELMONT, N.Y. - Denomination may have made the last start of her career on Saturday, and if it was, she went out in style, rallying under Joe Bravo for a 2 3/4-length victory in the Grade 3, $100,000 Athenia Stakes at Belmont Park.

Unbridled Humor, the even-money favorite, finished second by two lengths over Countess Lemonade. Thai Haku, Nefertiti, Thundering Emilia, and Stormy Dixie completed the order of finish. Aquitaine was scratched.

ELMONT, N.Y. - Seemingly one-paced throughout the majority of the race, Boisterous kicked into another gear in the final sixteenth of a mile and was able to run down Sleepless Knight to win Saturday’s Grade 3, $100,000 Knickerbocker Stakes by a half-length at blustery Belmont Park.

Rosie Napravnik won with her first mount since missing three months with a broken wrist and topped off her return to Delaware Park by winning the last of four stakes on Saturday’s program.

Napravnik, last year’s leading rider at Delaware, scored by 2 1/4 lengths aboard heavily favored Cape Girl ($2.80) in the second race, then after one off-the-board finish and a close second, she completed her first day of racing since July 7 when she guided the 2-year-old filly The Funky Express ($5.60) to a 2 1/4-length victory in the $75,000 Small Wonder.

Flat Out had his first workout since his victory in the Oct. 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup when posting a bullet drill in 59.80 seconds Saturday morning over a fast track at Churchill Downs.

Greta Kuntzweiler was aboard Flat Out in the work, which was the fastest of 46 at the distance. Flat Out, owned by Preston Stables, figures to be one of the favorites when the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic is run Nov. 5 at Churchill.
