Santa Anita: Indigo River may improve second time down the hill; pick 6 carryover is $135K

ARCADIA, Calif. – The turf course at Santa Anita poses a challenge for any horse running on the unique downhill layout for the first time.

“You have to really know where you’re going,” jockey Joel Rosario said. “You go right first, and then you come left. Some horses are professional, and don’t care. Others, the second time, they know where they are going and they improve. They are more relaxed.”

Santa Anita: Fed Biz cruises to victory

ARCADIA, Calif. - Fed Biz, one of trainer Bob Baffert's most promising 3-year-olds this year, won his debut against winners in an optional claimer over a mile at Santa Anita on Thursday.

A colt by Giant's Causeway owned by Kaleem Shah, Fed Biz had an ideal trip to win by 5 3/4 lengths against four overmatched rivals. Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, Fed Biz ($3.40) stalked pacesetter Consulado to early stretch, took the lead on the outside and was hand-ridden to finish. Fed Biz ran a mile in 1:34.74. Consulado finished second, 6 1/2 lengths clear of third-place Blueskiesnrainbows.

Sunland: Twelve Twenty Two tries to extend local unbeaten streak in El Dario

Twelve Twenty Two, whose lone loss in her last six starts came against Grade 1 company, will seek to improve her Sunland Park record to 6 for 6 on Saturday in the $50,000 El Dario.

The 6 1/2-furlong race for fillies and mares drew a full field of 12. Others set to start include Queen Greeley, a stakes winner at Sunland, and Came West, who has come east to New Mexico after racing this winter at Santa Anita in Southern California.

Sam Houston: Southern Style makes rare turf start in Champion Energy Services

Southern Style has won 12 races in his career, and while none of them has come on turf, he still rates as a leading contender in Saturday night’s $75,000 Champion Energy Services, a five-furlong sprint on the grass at Sam Houston Race Park.

Southern Style has raced on turf just twice in his career, including his last start at Fair Grounds on Dec.  17, when he was third to Chamberlain Bridge, the winner of the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint in 2010, in the $75,000 Bonapaw.

Aqueduct: Trainer Pat Reynolds attempts comeback

Away from the game for more than 15 months, Pat Reynolds is attempting a return to training.

Reynolds, who has not started a horse since Oct. 28, 2010, claimed There Goes Molly for $7,500 out of Wednesday’s second race for owner Robert Lescault.

“A buddy of mine from Saratoga texted me a few weeks ago – `How’s your health? Do you still want to train horses?’ ” Reynolds said. “And I texted back `Who is this?’ ”
