Aqueduct: Dutrow weighs options with Marilyn’s Guy

Adam Coglianese/NYRA
Marilyn's Guy, with C.C. Lopez riding, wins the As Indicated.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - If Redding Colliery ships to Santa Anita for the Big Cap as trainer Kiaran McLauglin has indicate he “likely” will, that might entice trainer Tony Dutrow to run Marilyn’s Guy in the Excelsior.

Marilyn’s Guy returned from an 11-month layoff to win a hard-fought nose decision over San Pablo in Saturday’s As Indicated Stakes over the inner track. Marilyn’s Guy earned a 99 Beyer Speed Figure in the process.

Dutrow said Monday that Marilyn’s Guy came out of the race “superior” but that his first instinct was not to run back in the Excelsior.

Fair Grounds: Applauding to be scratched out of Rachel Alexandra

The 3-year-old filly Applauding, who was among the entries for Saturday's Rachel Alexandra Stakes at Fair Grounds, will be scratched from the race, trainer Al Stall informed track officials Monday morning. Applauding breezed a half-mile in 50.80 seconds Monday morning, and Stall said he wasn't pleased with the work.

"She didn't work to my satisfaction and I'm going to scratch her," Stall said. "She just wasn't herself. I don't know if something's bugging her internally or what. She just wasn't right."

Santa Anita: Drill will focus on one-turn stakes, not Kentucky Derby

Shigeki Kikkawa
Drill (3) will concentrate on one-turn races, especially those at one mile, according to trainer Bob Baffert.

ARCADIA, Calif. – Wherever one-mile stakes for 3-year-olds are run this spring, Drill will be a nominee.

A day after Drill won his second stakes in the Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes at Santa Anita, trainer Bob Baffert said no plans have been made for the colt’s next start, but that races around one turn, particularly at a mile, will be given extra consideration.

“I think he’s a middle-distance horse, a one-turn horse,” Baffert said. “We’ll nominate to everything.”
