Turfway: In Lingerie proven on Polytrack coming into Bourbonette Oaks

[bc_video_id:247053:]In a surprising year which two Turfway Park maiden winners, Hansen and Gemologist, are leading Kentucky Derby prospects, it’s apropos that another Turfway maiden winner, In Lingerie, has a chance to shine Saturday in a minor Kentucky Oaks prep, the Grade 3, $100,000 Bourbonette at Turfway on the Vinery Racing Spiral undercard.

Although moving into a stakes race for the first time, In Lingerie is the most likely favorite over a field that includes Grade 3 Miesque winner More Than Love and the stakes-placed Bourbonstreetgirl.

Turfway: On Vinery Spiral Day, all worries vanish

FLORENCE, Ky. – Another winter of discontent is melting away at Turfway Park, where temperatures reached record highs earlier this week. Yet another legislative session went by without passage of a law or referendum that could provide for alternative gaming at Kentucky racetracks, a development that has further deepened the fiscal crisis that enshrouds this 52-year-old track.

Laurel: Eighttofasttocatch faces questions on stretch-out

Jim McCue/Maryland Jockey Club
Sheldon Russell, who won last year's Maryland Million Classic aboard Regal Solo, takes this year's edition with Eighttofasttocatch.

Based on his form in 2011, it’s hard to knock Eighttofasttocatch. He won 5 of 10 starts, including four stakes at his home track, Laurel Park. Whether the now 6-year-old Eighttofasttocatch is ready to pick up where he left off last year, however, is debatable.

Eighttofasttocatch certainly deserves to be favored when he seeks to defend his title in the $100,000 Harrison Johnson Memorial Stakes at 1 1/8 miles on Saturday. But there are also a couple of red flags that may tempt handicappers shopping for a better price to look elsewhere in the six-horse field.

Heavy Breathing, with Javier Castellano riding, wins his racing debut.

FLORENCE, Ky. – Funny how one horse can do so much for one race. When Animal Kingdom won the Kentucky Derby last year, the Churchill Downs suite where the sponsors of the Vinery Racing Spiral Stakes were watching virtually exploded.

“It was a pretty wild time,” said Bob Elliston, the Turfway Park president who watched the Derby alongside Vinery principals Tom Simon and Tom Ludt.
