Hollywood Park: Richard’s Kid comes back strong in Prove It Stakes

Benoit & Associates
Richard's Kid wins the Prove It Stakes at Betfair Hollywood Park by 7 1/4 lengths.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Richard’s Kid resumed his California career in Friday’s $71,650 Prove It Stakes at Betfair Hollywood Park with a convincing win that left him with a leading role in the handicap division.

While the minor Prove It Stakes was not as prestigious of a win as the Grade 1 Goodwood Stakes in October 2010, the horse’s last start on this circuit, Friday’s result showed that Richard’s Kid belongs in the $500,000 Hollywood Gold Cup on July 7, which trainer Bob Baffert mentioned as a goal before the Prove It.

Six 2-year-old fillies, all coming off maiden victories out of town, will square off in Monday’s fifth race at Delaware Park, a 4 1/2-furlong sprint open to nonwinners of two lifetime or $62,500 claimers.

Based on Beyer Speed Figures, trainer Wesley Ward has by far the two fastest fillies in the field with his uncoupled pair of Sweet Shirley Mae and Walkin in a Shadow.

Belmont Stakes-Brooklyn daily double shows Dullahan slight favorite over Union Rags

ELMONT, N.Y. - The scratch of Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner I’ll Have Another from Saturday’s Belmont Stakes will likely leave Dullahan as the favorite for the third leg of Thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown.

Dullahan, the third-place finisher in the Kentucky Derby, is a slight favorite over Union Rags, the seventh-place finisher in the Derby, in the Brooklyn-Belmont Stakes daily double wager.

A Brooklyn-Belmont double linking Brooklyn winner Redeemed ($6.50) with Dullahan would return $25. It returns $29 with Union Rags.
