Belmont Park: Pick six pays $12,462; Fiddlers Afleet takes Chasin’ Wimmin’ Stakes

ELMONT, N.Y. - Friday’s pick six at Belmont Park returned $12,462. There were 57 winning tickets sold.

The correct sequence of 1-10-10-6-6-4 included Dance Card ($2.40), Mary P. Jones ($25.20), Special Skills ($12.80), Madame Giry ($8.10), Fiddlers Afleet ($9.70), and Departures ($4.30). Dance Card and Departures were favored while Madame Giry and Fiddlers Afleet were the second choice in their respective races.

Friday’s card began with a two-day carryover of $194,905 and there was an additional $903,086 wagered into the pool.

Thistledown: Eyes Super Freaky best in Cleveland Gold Cup

NORTH RANDALL, Ohio - Eyes Super Freaky overcame being squeezed between horses the opening eighth of a mile, settled along the rail behind the leaders into the second turn, was taken out three wide to circle the top two, and then drew off under Luis A. Gonzalez to win as much the best in the 45th running of the $75,000, 1 1/8-mile Daniel Stearns Cleveland Gold Cup.

It was 5 1/2 lengths back to License to Baling, who finished second, 2 3/4 lengths ahead of Uncle Virgil.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Marketing Mix has resided at Woodbine since her workmanlike score in the June 2 Nassau Stakes, and will be favored when she tries to double up in the Grade 2 Dance Smartly Stakes here Sunday.

The $300,000 Dance Smartly, a 1 1/8-mile turf event, offers an extra $60,000 for eligible Ontario-breds, and Marketing Mix fits the bill. She found her calling on the grass last summer, when she romped here in the restricted Wonder Where Stakes. She subsequently won the Grade 3 Pucker Up at Arlington and the Grade 2 Mrs. Revere at Churchill Downs.

Arapahoe Park: Pedigree points to Cosmopolitan in George Wafer Memorial

Cosmopolitan is bred for stakes success as a half-sister to Breeders’ Cup champ California Flag and multiple Grade 3 winner Cambiocorsa. Sunday, she will get her first chance at it when she makes her stakes debut in the $40,000 George Wafer Memorial at Arapahoe Park.

The Wafer Memorial is a seven-furlong race for 3-year-old fillies. It goes with a field of nine, among the starters Sudden Ghost, who is out of the Grade 1-winning mare Too Late Now, and Hindu Kush, who has placed in four stakes at Turf Paradise.

Emerald Downs: Noosa Beach out indefinitely following starting gate mishap

AUBURN, Wash. – The Noosa Beach saga took an unexpected turn this week when the two-time Washington horse of the year was sidelined because of injuries apparently sustained when he flipped in the starting gate before his scheduled start in the Budweiser Handicap at Emerald Downs on June 17.

Noosa Beach’s injuries were first believed to be superficial, but trainer Doris Harwood said the horse wasn’t up to par in a workout eight days later. Harwood, who trains Noosa Beach for her husband, Jeff, sent the horse home to their farm in Auburn, with no timetable for his return.

Hollywood Park Notes: Injury clouds Belle Royale's future

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Belle Royale, who has emerged as the leading turf female in California in recent months, faces an uncertain future after being diagnosed with a tendon injury earlier this week.

Trainer Simon Callaghan said a decision on whether the 4-year-old Belle Royale stays in training or is retired and bred in 2013 will be made later this year, after the injury is reassessed.
