In the last month, the New York-based jockey Julien Leparoux has traveled to ride at tracks in Kentucky, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Canada, and California.
The one place he didn’t visit enough this summer was the Belmont Park winner’s circle.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – There is something about the majesty of Thoroughbreds that can bring grown men to tears and Herbie D had trainer Rob Gilker pretty choked up when he won an optional $40,000 claiming race at Hastings last Sunday.
BOSSIER CITY, La. – Louisiana Cup Day at Louisiana Downs is still over a month away and along with it the $100,000 Cup Turf Classic, but anticipation is already running high. The Turf Classic promises to be one of the most competitive of the eight events restricted to Louisiana-breds on the afternoon of Aug. 18.
ETOBICOKE, Ontario – For the umpteenth time at the Woodbine meet, trainer Mark Casse will send out two contenders in a feature race, when he runs Eagle Hall and Silent Moon in the fourth on Friday.
Eagle Hall could be favored over Silent Moon in the second-level optional claimer on the grass. Thislilsoulofmine also figures to garner significant support, even though the nine-furlong distance is shorter than what she prefers.
DEL MAR, Calif. – Tribal Peace won her debut at Betfair Hollywood Park by a half-length June 24, a margin that trainer John Sadler said was deceptive.
“What was a little confusing about her first race is she made the lead too soon and started fooling around,” Sadler said. “She went to the front so easily.”
For Friday’s $100,000 California Thoroughbred Breeders Association Stakes at Del Mar, Tribal Peace must remain focused. She has drawn the outside post in a field of seven 2-year-old California-bred fillies and will be favored.
DEL MAR, Calif. – Paynter, a game second to Union Rags in the Belmont Stakes on June 9, is bound for the $1 million Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park on July 29, trainer Bob Baffert said.
Paynter worked six furlongs in 1:13.20 on Del Mar’s Polytrack synthetic surface on Wednesday.
OCEANPORT, N.J. – Ima Jersey Girl ends a string of five straight stakes appearances when she drops to the $46,000 allowance feature for fillies and mares on Friday at Monmouth Park.
A 4-year-old gray New Jersey-bred, Ima Jersey Girl cuts back to six furlongs while facing five rivals in the third-level race. None of the runners carries the optional $60,000 claiming tag.
Ima Jersey Girl, a homebred for John Brunetti’s Red Oak Stable, can be her own worst enemy.
“She has a little problem in the gate sometimes where she gets a little anxious,” said trainer Greg Sacco.
ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Trainer Mike DePaulo plans to send out his stable star, the Ontario-sired Pender Harbour, here in Sunday’s open Nijinsky Stakes at 1 1/8 miles on the turf. But DePaulo also has a pair of less-heralded Ontario-sired performers on tap for upcoming restricted stakes races, with Kitty’s Got Class entered in Saturday’s $125,000 Passing Mood and Bear and Rod aiming for Wednesday’s $125,000 Deputy Minister.
The Passing Mood is a seven-furlong turf race for 3-year-old fillies, while the Deputy Minister is a seven-furlong Polytrack race for 3-year-olds.
Intense heat and humidity caused Delaware Park to cancel its live racing card Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service, the heat index for the Wilmington, Del., region is expected to reach 105 degrees this afternoon before thunderstorms move in after 4 p.m.
Delaware Park officials made the decision to cancel for the third time this summer upon the recommendation of the Delaware Thoroughbred Racing Commission Chief Veterinarian Dr. John T. Peters. Peters said racing under such conditions would pose substantial health risks to horses, riders, and participants.
Awesome Feather, the undefeated 2-year-old champion filly of 2010, worked four furlongs in 49.29 seconds Tuesday over the Oklahoma training track and appears ahead of schedule for a late summer or early fall return to the races.
Awesome Feather, who hasn’t run since taking the Sunshine Millions Distaff in January, went her first quarter in 24.97 seconds and her second quarter in 24.32 while in hand.
