Parx: Traffic Light romps in the slop winning Crowd Pleaser Stakes

The heavy rainstorm that hit Parx Racing early on the Saturday card gave Traffic Light a huge edge in the $75,500 Crowd Pleaser Stakes for Pennsylvania bred 3-year-olds.

Originally scheduled for the turf, the Crowd Pleaser was rained off onto the sloppy, sealed main track at the same 1 1/16 mile distance.

No one benefited from the switch more than Traffic Light, who set all the pace to beat Yourhonorandglory by six lengths for his third win at the meet on an off track.

Inherit the Gold has been retired from racing.

Inherit the Gold, a six-time stakes-winning New York-bred gelding, has been retired from racing, trainer Jim Hooper said Friday.

Inherit the Gold had myriad physical issues, which prompted Hooper to stop on the 6-year-old gelding by Gold Token.

“The biggest thing is the wear and tear on his cartilage of his front ankles,” Hooper said.

Inherit the Gold finished his career with a record of 10-5-3 from 25 starts and earnings of $478,985.

Saratoga: It's Tricky enjoys the quiet setting

Tom Keyser
It's Tricky is being pointed to the Grade 1, $600,000 Personal Ensign on Aug. 26.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The bucolic setting of the Godolphin Training Center adjacent to the backstretch of Saratoga’s main track is the perfect atmosphere for those horses that can be, say, a little tricky.

That is one reason why trainer Kiaran McLaughlin opted to work the aptly named It’s Tricky over the training center’s synthetic surface Saturday morning, where at 9:30 a.m. she was the only horse on the track.

Barbara D. Livingston
Kid Kate, with Eddie Castro riding, wins the 2011 Lady Tak.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Kid Kate is perfect in four starts over the main track at Saratoga, which makes it surprising the multiple stakes winner has shown up in the entries for Monday’s $100,000 Shakespeare Caress Stakes, an overnight stakes for fillies and mares carded to be run at 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf. There is a $66,254 pick-six carryover heading into Monday's card as the bet went unhit Sunday.
