Get Happy Mister closed out a perfect Arapahoe Park meet on Sunday, when he drew out to a 9 1/4-length win over Southern California shipper Manewal in the $100,000 Gold Rush Futurity. It was another 8 1/4 lengths back in third to R S Watson.

DEL MAR, Calif. – With just two prior starts, Winding Way was put in a difficult spot in the Grade 3, $150,000 Rancho Bernardo Handicap at Del Mar on Sunday, and then she proceeded to make the task all the more challenging by getting off well behind the field.

But in a stunning display of raw talent, Winding Way managed to overcome that poor start and six other rivals by rallying to capture the Rancho Bernardo, the championship main-track sprint of the meet for older fillies and mares.

For the second time in the last month, a horse who was claimed was euthanized shortly after being removed from the track on Saturday, leaving questions about the practicality of a new California Horse Racing Board rule that voids the claim of a horse euthanized on the racetrack.

Temerity, claimed for $10,000 by Kirk Robison and trainer Peter Miller, was pulled up at the three-eighths pole of Sunday’s 10th race over 1 1/16 miles. After being loaded on to the van and taken to Miller’s stable, the assessment was made that Temerity could not be saved, Miller said.

Lady of Shamrock will have one prep race before the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Santa Anita on Nov. 2, and is likely to start in the $250,000 Rodeo Drive Stakes there on Sept. 29.

A day after Lady of Shamrock won the fifth stakes of her career in the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks, trainer John Sadler said he would prefer to race the filly at Santa Anita this fall as opposed to shipping to Kentucky for a race such as the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland in October.

“We would be inclined not to travel,” he said.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Boxed in along the rail of the inner turf course in upper stretch, Stephanie’s Kitten appeared as though she was going to have another troubled trip in a graded stakes at Saratoga.

Unlike last month’s Lake George Stakes, however, when Stephanie’s Kitten got stuck behind horses, jockey John Velazquez was able to find running room inside the eighth pole. He guided Stephanie’s Kitten into the three-path and she rocketed past Centre Court to win the Grade 2, $200,000 Lake Placid Stakes by one-half length.

Corinthian’s Jewel, making his first start against winners following his maiden victory in his third career start in early July, drew clear in the stretch to win Sunday’s $60,000 Restoration Stakes for 3-year-old turf runners at Monmouth Park.

Ridden confidently by Paco Lopez, Corinthian’s Jewel ($8.60) was third, five lengths off the pace, through the first six furlongs in 1:11.82. He made a three-wide bid on the turn for home, kicked clear in upper stretch, and reached the wire 1 1/4 lengths in front.

Just two weeks after winning the richest race of his career, jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. hit the 1,000-win milestone Saturday when taking the eighth race aboard Wildandcrazyguy at Ellis Park in Henderson, Ky.

Hernandez, 26, won the $750,000 Whitney Handicap on Aug. 4 at Saratoga aboard Fort Larned for the first Grade 1 victory of a career that began in his native Louisiana in 2003.

Hernandez entered the Saturday card at Ellis with 998 wins before capturing the sixth race with Temp. Two races later, he won on Wildandcrazyguy, a 6-1 shot trained by Aaron Shorter.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario — The well-traveled Forte Dei Marmi closed strongly on the outside in the stretch to take the Grade 2, $264,000 Sky Classic Stakes under Alex Solis at Woodbine on Sunday.

Forte Dei Marmi ($14.10) trailed the eight-horse field all the way around until the quarter pole, where he began to mount his bid. He got home on top by three-quarters of a length over 21-1 outsider Stormy Lord, who set a moderate pace in the 10-furlong turf route. Scalo, the favored German invader, finished another neck back in third in his first start with Lasix.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Though Atigun put in a fast workout Sunday morning at Saratoga, the manner in which it was done has trainer Ken McPeek reconsidering his plan to equip the 3-year-old with blinkers for the first time in Saturday’s $1 million Travers Stakes.

Atigun, wearing blinkers for the first time in a work out, zipped four furlongs in 46.41 seconds over Saratoga’s main track. He went his first quarter in 22.36 seconds and his second quarter in 24.05. He galloped out five furlongs in 59.69.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -  It was a busy morning on all fronts Sunday at Saratoga with important works taking place, some simultaneously, over the main track as well as on both the Oklahoma training and turf courses.

Among the top horses to work early Sunday morning at Oklahoma were My Miss Aurelia, who breezed five furlongs in the dark in 1:03.03 shortly after the training track opened at 5:30 a.m., and Mucho Macho Man who followed about a half-hour later with a swift five- eighths in 1:00.98.
