SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – After wresting the lead from My Smartness aboard Effie Trinket, jockey Alan Garcia took a peek at the infield television monitor to see who, if anyone, would be making a late run at him and his 2-year-old New York-bred filly in the $100,000 Aristie Stakes.
Garcia immediately picked up the black and gold silks of Agilion, the 4-5 favorite, and got back to the business of riding. Garcia and Effie Trinket had just enough to hold off Agilion at the wire to win the Aristie by a head. It was 1 1/4 lengths back to Zekes Surprise in third.
DEL MAR, Calif. – Considering her lineage, it was no surprise the 2-year-old filly Tilde was foaled as a gray.
“Her mother is gray, she has six full sisters and all but one is a gray,” said trainer-owner-breeder Mike Harrington.
Sired by Swiss Yodeler and the 10th foal out of broodmare Self Taught, Tilde might resemble her siblings in color. But three starts into her career, Tilde already has outperformed her family when it comes to green, the color of money.
VANCOUVER, British Columbia – After running over wet tracks in the first four starts of his career, Pakal finally got a chance to hear his feet rattle when he caught a fast track in his latest start, which came at Hastings in a $7,500 claiming race for 3-year-olds. SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Trainer Christophe Clement is hoping to give Right One a confidence booster when he sends his Grade 3 winner out as the likely favorite in Wednesday’s $100,000 Win, an overnight stakes carded at one mile over Saratoga’s inner turf course.
The Win is one of two overnight stakes on Wednesday’s program along with the $100,000 David for 2-year-old New York-breds.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Trainer Michael Matz has a surfeit of talented 3-year-old turf fillies and had nominated Assateague, Colonial Flag, Somali Lemonade, and Welcome Dance to last Saturday’s $161,300 Ontario Colleen Stakes. Only Colonial Flag ran, proving one length the best under Joe Rocco Jr. in the Grade 3 Ontario Colleen over one mile of the E.P. Taylor course.
Colonial Flag, based at Maryland’s Fair Hill training center, finished last of eighth at Betfair Hollywood Park in the Grade 1 American Oaks at 1 1/4 miles in her race before the Colleen.
