Thistledown: Blazing Bling in strong spot to win third straight in Miss Ohio

Blazing Bling, the lone stakes winner in a field of seven, looks to continue her winning ways and capture her third win in a row in  Friday’s 45th running of the $50,000, six-furlong, Miss Ohio Stakes for 2-year old Ohio-registered fillies at Thistledown.

Trainer Timothy Hamm will also send out Disappeared, who is part of a coupled entry with Blazing Bling for owners Blazing Meadows Farm and Langsem Farm, and Unique Indygo for owner Bruce Ryan.

Remington: Ricks Memorial pace scenario may be ideal for Aquapazza

Woodbine: Atlantic Hurricane targets Presque Isle Masters

Atlantic Hurricane is expected to make her next start in the Grade 2 Presque Isle Masters on Sept. 8.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Atlantic Hurricane was nominated to Saturday’s Seaway Stakes, a seven-furlong race here for fillies and mares that offers Grade 3 status and a purse of $150,000. But Stu Simon, trainer and a part-owner of Atlantic Hurricane, has elected to bypass the Seaway and head to Pennsylvania for the Presque Isle Masters, a 6 1/2-furlong filly and mare stakes Sept. 8.

Sellers hopes to get clearance to resume riding

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Jockey Shane Sellers is scheduled to see a physician Friday in Louisville to seek clearance for his return to race riding after recovering from a fractured shoulder blade he sustained on the final weekend of racing at the Churchill Downs spring meet.

Sellers has been exercising horses at Churchill for the last week or so and said Wednesday he will not travel to Arlington Park as originally hoped. He said he most likely will make his return at Turfway Park, which starts its 16-day meet Sept. 6, or Kentucky Downs, which starts its six-day meet Sept. 8.

Arlington Park notes: Gleam of Hope taking drop in allowance

Gleam of Hope is the morning-line favorite in Thursday's fifth race.

One allowance race, the fifth of nine, serves as the highlight of the Thursday program at Arlington Park. Gleam of Hope, dropping sharply in class for trainer Mike Stidham when in for a $40,000 claiming option, is the morning-line favorite among the 10 3-year-olds and upward in the lineup.

Other considerations in the $44,000, second-level allowance, which goes at 1 1/16 miles on the Poly, include Color Me Blue, Keep Up, Cool C Note, and Gallant Eagle.

Del Mar notes: Pincay, Velasquez are backside visitors

DEL MAR, Calif. - Hall of Fame jockeys Laffit Pincay Jr. and Jorge Velasquez were making the rounds of the Del Mar stable area on Tuesday, swapping stories of when they rode together while also informing trainers about GastroMax3, an equine ulcer medication both represent.

Velasquez was visiting Del Mar for the first time in years. His main job these days is being the jockey agent for apprentice Armando Ayuso, a native of Panama who is sixth in the standings at Monmouth Park.

DEL MAR, Calif. - City to City and All Star Heart, separated by a nose in the John Mabee Stakes on Aug. 12, will have a rematch on Monday in the Grade 2, $250,000 Yellow Ribbon Handicap for older female turf runners going 1 1/16 miles.

The Yellow Ribbon, long the name of the championship female grass race at Santa Anita’s Oak Tree meeting, is now the name of what was the Palomar Handicap. With Oak Tree no longer running a fall meet at Santa Anita, it has bequeathed the name of the race to Del Mar.

DEL MAR, Calif. - Drop the puck, baby! Howe Great and Old Time Hockey are scheduled to face off on Sunday in the Grade 2, $300,000 Del Mar Derby for 3-year-olds at 1 1/8 miles on turf. Also under consideration for the race are All Squared Away, Brother Francis, Midnight Crooner, My Best Brother, Smart Ellis, and Tones.

My Best Brother, second by a nose to Old Time Hockey in the La Jolla Handicap earlier this month, worked a half-mile in 48.20 seconds on Tuesday morning for Canani.

Saratoga: Castellano brothers' wives have babies on the same day

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Jockeys Javier and Abel Castellano, brothers, both welcomed new baby boys into the world on Tuesday.

Javier’s wife, Abby, gave birth to Brady Ryan, who weighed in at 8 pounds, 15 ounces. Abel’s wife, Claudia, gave birth to Adam Antonio, who weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces.

It was the third child for each family.
