Saratoga: Dayatthespa tries to fire fresh in Riskaverse

Dayatthespa is looking for her fourth straight win this year in the Riskaverse.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Dayatthespa will be more than just a hunch play for those who attend Friday’s “Party at the Park” card at Saratoga.

Dayatthespa, a multiple-graded stakes-winning New York-bred filly, looks to restart what had been a promising 3-year-old campaign when she takes on a full field in the $100,000 Riskaverse, a one-mile turf race and the featured event on a Friday card that begins at 2:30 p.m. Eastern.

Delaware Park: Apprentice given two-month suspension for careless riding

STANTON, Delaware – Jockey Victor Rodriguez, who has 16 winners at the current Delaware Park meeting to rank second among local apprentice jockeys, was suspended by the stewards for the remainder of the meeting, which ends on Nov. 3. Rodriguez was supended for incidents that occured in the second and fourth races last Saturday.

Northern California notes: Falling Knife training for another marathon after Ferndale triumph

Falling Knife proved his marathon bona fides again by winning Sunday’s 1 5/8-mile C.J. Hindley Humboldt County Marathon on closing day in Ferndale. Trainer Billy Morey now has another marathon in his sights for the 6-year-old Cozzene gelding, who was second in the 1 1/2-mile Grade 3 Turfway Park Fall Championship in 2010 and won a 2 1/4-mile race as Ellis Park last year.

Morey said he is considering running Falling Knife in a 1 3/8-mile starter allowance at Fairplex on Sept. 28. Falling Knife can also handle the turf, so Morey has options available to him.

Los Alamitos: Check My Thoughts gives his trainer a long-awaited victory

For more than 30 years, trainer James Glenn Jr. had been waiting for a race such as last Sunday’s Grade 1 Golden State Derby at Los Alamitos.

Glenn, 47, rode for seven years in the 1980s and has trained since then. He had not scored a big race win until Check My Thoughts ran a near perfect race in the $236,400 Golden State Derby. It was also the biggest career win for jockey Eulices Gomez, 27.

Glenn, who rode and initially trained in the Pacific Northwest, is based at Los Alamitos with a seven-horse stable.

Hastings: Dashing Daisy the class of Friday feature

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Dashing Daisy isn’t going to come close to repeating her very successful 2011 season, when she won six races, including the Delta Coleen and B.C. Cup Distaff. Nonetheless, she looks like the one they will have to beat when she runs in a $25,000 claiming race for fillies and mares at Hastings on Friday.

Woodbine: Pace may set up Kerry Convent's late move

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Kerry Convent returns from a six-week break in Friday’s featured eighth race. There’s some speed in the five-furlong Ontario-sired allowance, and it could set up for the Steve Attard-trained runner if she fires one of her better shots.

Kerry Convent checked in third in her first two appearances at the meet, both in Ontario-sired nonwinners-of-two allowance company. She nearly notched her second win while dropping to $20,000 May  23, when she closed to finish a head back as the favorite.

Monmouth: Devilish Silver makes rare start for a claiming tag

OCEANPORT, N.J. – The ultra-consistent Devilish Silver has hit the board in her last 15 starts, all for trainer Bobby Dibona. She looks to extend that streak in a second-level optional $32,000 claimer, the Friday feature for fillies and mares on the last major weekend at Monmouth Park.

There will be stakes races Saturday through Monday as the core portion of the Monmouth season concludes. The Grade 3 Cliff Hanger on turf highlights the Saturday card, while 2-year-olds are showcased Sunday in the Grade 3 Sapling and the Sorority for fillies.

Ellis Park: Instant Racing machines open Friday

Ellis Park will open its new Instant Racing machines to the public on Friday, making the western Kentucky track the second in the state to offer the games as a means to increase revenues and purses.

Although Ellis owner Ron Geary did not return phone messages Tuesday or Wednesday, a spokesman for the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission, Dick Brown, confirmed that a ribbon-cutting ceremony was to be held Thursday, with the parlor opening to the public Friday.

Thistledown: Blazing Bling in strong spot to win third straight in Miss Ohio

Blazing Bling, the lone stakes winner in a field of seven, looks to continue her winning ways and capture her third win in a row in  Friday’s 45th running of the $50,000, six-furlong, Miss Ohio Stakes for 2-year old Ohio-registered fillies at Thistledown.

Trainer Timothy Hamm will also send out Disappeared, who is part of a coupled entry with Blazing Bling for owners Blazing Meadows Farm and Langsem Farm, and Unique Indygo for owner Bruce Ryan.
