ARCADIA, Calif. – Santa Anita ended its autumn meeting Sunday after a successful Breeders’ Cup weekend with mixed business figures for the rest of the meeting – lower average attendance and handle ontrack, but a rise in overall handle helped by a significant increase in account wagering.

For the purposes of comparison with the 2011 Santa Anita autumn meeting, the two days of Breeders’ Cup races were not included in the figures compiled by track officials. The 2011 Breeders’ Cup races were held at Churchill Downs.

STICKNEY, Ill. – Beginning this week, Hawthorne Race Course has cut Wednesday racing from its schedule, but the equine herpesvirus outbreak that motivated the track’s decision to switch from five- to four-day race weeks is showing signs of coming under control.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Before Saturday’s $183,000 Maple Leaf Stakes, Smart Sting hadn’t competed on Polytrack since her victory in last year’s Grade 3 Selene Stakes. She reaffirmed her fondness for the surface with a decisive score over a closing Imperial Pippin in the 10-furlong fixture.

The Maple Leaf was the first win of the year for Smart Sting, who finished fourth in two Grade 3 turf stakes in the United States, before ending up sixth here in the Grade 2 Canadian.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Honorable Guest seemingly lays over the field in Wednesday’s $125,000 Frost King Stakes, and he should be the clear favorite in the seven-furlong sprint for Ontario-sired 2-year-olds at Woodbine.

Honorable Guest finished second in each of his first three outings, including two stakes, although he was demoted to fifth in the Colin for interference. He earned his diploma by eight lengths in a six-furlong maiden special for Ontario-sired stock Aug. 11.

ARCADIA, Calif. – After a wild journey down the Triple Crown trail in 2012, the connections of dual classic winner I’ll Have Another could be back for more in 2013 with He’s Had Enough.

In his first start on dirt in Saturday’s $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Santa Anita, He’s Had Enough finished a rallying second, falling a head short at the wire to the undefeated Shanghai Bobby after encountering traffic around the turn.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Wednesday’s racing at Churchill Downs offers a break from the usual weekday fare from across the country that involves a steady diet of claiming races. Among the 10 races are three maiden special weight contests and three allowances – two entry-level races and a second-level allowance on the grass for older fillies and mares.

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. – One Dashing Eagle became the first Quarter Horse to win three seven-figure races in the same year with an easy win in Sunday’s $1,118,000 Golden State Million Futurity at Los Alamitos.

Earlier this year, One Dashing Eagle won the Ed Burke Million Futurity at Los Alamitos and the All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs.

ARCADIA, Calif. - Rhythm of Light won her third race in as many countries this year in Sunday’s $150,000 Goldikova Stakes at Santa Anita, the showcase race on the final day of the track’s autumn meeting.

Sent off favored, Rhythm of Light benefited from a perfect ride from jockey Garrett Gomez, closing from sixth in a field of seven with a wide move and winning the Grade 2 race over a mile on turf by 1 1/2 lengths.

Rhythm of Light ($6.80) was timed in 1:33.42.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario — Atlantic Hurricane, last year’s Canadian champion female sprinter, won the $155,500 Ontario Fashion Stakes for the second year in a row at Woodbine on Sunday.

With Luis Contreras aboard, Atlantic Hurricane bided her time near the rear of the eight-horse field on the backstretch, as Mo Jo Queen set rapid fractions in the six-furlong dash.
