Csaba’s form leaps off the page Saturday in the Grade 3, $100,000 Fred W. Hooper Handicap at Calder Race Course. He won the Tropical Park Derby by 14 lengths in his last start, and the Beyer Speed Figure of 106 that he earned is the best career number in the field.

The Hooper is a 1 1/8-mile race for 3-year-olds and up, and it will share a card with the Grade 2, $150,000 W.L. McKnight Handicap at 1 1/2 miles on turf. The Hooper goes with a field of six, including Ducduc who is cross-entered in the McKnight.

PHOENIX – A stakes quartet at Turf Paradise on Saturday gives players something more to sink their teeth into this holiday weekend as the track has carded male and female divisions of the $35,000 Arizona Breeders Futurity as well as the $25,000 Cactus Wren and $25,000 Cactus Flower.

The comeback of the 8-year-old gelding Jess You and I this fall has been geared toward Saturday’s $15,000 Z. Wayne Griffin Directors Trial at Los Alamitos.

A top-three finish in the 400-yard race would earn Jess You and I a fifth consecutive appearance in the $750,000 Champion of Champions on Dec. 15. Jess You and I won the 2008 Champion of Champions, the year he was named champion aged horse.

“We plan his vacations that way,” co-owner Dawn List said. “We did this on purpose. I think he’s ready to go.”

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Atlantic Hurricane, the reigning Canadian champion female sprinter, shoots to win the Grade 3 Bessarabian Stakes at Woodbine for the second straight year on Saturday.

Atlantic Hurricane capped her brilliant 2011 campaign with a five-length score in the $150,000 Bessarabian, for which she got a career-high 97 Beyer Speed Figure.

Atlantic Hurricane had just a single win from five starts this year before she captured the Grade 3 Ontario Fashion Stakes for the second year in a row Nov. 4.

Ben's Cat needed almost every inch of the Penn National stretch to get up and win the $200,000 Fabulous Strike, one of four stakes at Penn National Race Course on Wednesday evening.

Ridden by Julian Pimentel, Ben's Cat was never far back in the field of nine while on the inside early. Pimentel  had to alter course with Ben’s Cat, who was all out to prevail by a head over Immortal Eyes in the six-furlong race.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - When Saginaw beat Friend or Foe in Sunday's Fourstars Allstar Stakes, it was his ninth win from 12 starts this year. He is tied with four other horses - including My Wandy's Girl - for second-most wins for horses who have made at least one start in North America.

Clean Jean, a New York-bred based at Finger Lakes, leads all horses with 10 wins in 2012. Trainer David Jacobson said he is planning to run Saginaw in the $75,000 Hamlet Stakes here on Dec. 6. The Hamlet is run at six furlongs, a distance that is shorter than Saginaw's best.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - After opting to skip the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies with My Happy Face, owner Michael Dubb figured he would run his 2-year-old filly in both the Tempted and Demoiselle stakes at Aqueduct.

While My Happy Face won the Tempted here on Nov. 4, the race was much tougher than Dubb anticipated, and thus he didn't even nominate the filly to Saturday's $250,000 Demoiselle Stakes.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - My Wandy's Girl, a multiple Grade 1 winner in Puerto Rico, will attempt to win a Grade 1 in the U.S. when she wheels back on short rest to run in Saturday's $350,000 Gazelle Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Aqueduct.

My Wandy's Girl will be running just nine days after she won the Pentelis, a 6 1/2-furlong overnight stakes here on Nov. 15.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Applauding, the record-setting filly whose 3-year-old debut was delayed by illness, made a successful comeback Wednesday at Churchill Downs when remaining undefeated in three career starts with a hard-fought, 1 1/4-length victory in a second-level allowance at six furlongs.

Making her first start in nearly a year, Applauding glided away to the early lead but never really shook clear, with jockey Joe Rocco Jr. having to resort to a hard drive to keep her safe as the 1-2 favorite.

Jockey Jansen Melancon has moved his tack to Fair Grounds in New Orleans, said his father, veteran rider Gerard Melancon. Jansen, 24, and his father, 45, have both been competing at Delta. Gerard Melancon said his son’s last full card at Delta was Saturday.

“He’s hoping for a big horse,” Gerard Melancon said.

Jansen is 11th in the Delta standings. He will be represented at Fair Grounds by agent Jerry Reites, said Gerard Melancon.
