Kid Dreams "looks to be on the improve," says trainer Neil Drysdale.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – The 3-year-olds Just Win Baby and Kid Dreams may be seeing a lot of each other this spring and summer at Betfair Hollywood Park.

The two maiden race winners meet in a first-level optional $80,000 claimer over 1 1/16 miles on Friday, a race that could lead to starts in the $100,000 Affirmed Handicap on June 2. Both are held in that high of regard by their respective stables.

Churchill Downs notes: Trackside not a Kentucky Derby option this year

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - This is the first time in many years that the nearby Trackside simulcast annex will not be open for fans wishing to avoid the hassles of attending the Oaks and Derby at Churchill. It was announced in March that the facility was being shuttered after becoming too expensive and troublesome to maintain for just a handful of business days per year.

Kentucky Oaks futures overlays and underlays

Barbara D. Livingston
Midnight Lucky will be a far lower price Friday than her 16-1 Kentucky Oaks Future Wager odds.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – With 10 set for the 139th Kentucky Oaks and their post-time odds fairly easy to gauge, there clearly are some overlays and underlays stemming from when Churchill Downs offered its only Kentucky Oaks Future Wager pool in early March.

Churchill Downs: Edgewood lacks strong favorite, but offers multiple contenders

Shigeki Kikkawa
Judy in Disguise will stretch out beyond seven furlongs for the first time in the Edgewood.

Not unlike several other Friday stakes – namely, the Kentucky Oaks, Eight Belles, Alysheba, and American Turf – the Edgewood Stakes has all the makings of a terrific betting race with a very competitive finish.

The $150,000 Edgewood has a lukewarm 3-1 choice among its field of 11 3-year-old turf fillies going 1 1/16 miles, with the Shug McGaughey-trained Tokyo Time filling that tenuous favorite’s role in a cast otherwise replete with inviting options.

Churchill Downs: Take Charge Indy again in tough company with Alysheba foes

Barbara D. Livingston
Take Charge Indy is winless in five starts since taking the 2012 Florida Derby.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Trainer Pat Byrne was pleased with the efforts in defeat from Take Charge Indy over the winter at Gulfstream, where his horse was third behind Graydar in the Grade 1 Donn Handicap and second in the Grade 3 Skip Away to Cigar Street.

“He ran into some very good horses, and of course when you run at this level you’re going to,” he said.

Friday, when Take Charge Indy, last year’s Florida Derby winner, runs in the Grade 2, $300,000 Alysheba Stakes on the Kentucky Oaks undercard at Churchill Downs, it is the same story once again.

Churchill Downs: Noble Tune has taken detour to American Turf

Barbara D. Livingston
After looking uncomfortable on Polytrack, Noble Tune gets his preferred surface in Friday's American Turf.

Trainer Chad Brown’s original plan was to run Noble Tune last month in the Grade 1 Blue Grass. But after the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf runner-up did not work to Brown’s satisfaction over the Polytrack at Keeneland, he went to Plan B, Friday’s $200,000 American Turf at Churchill Downs.

Noble Tune tops a full field of 11 3-year-olds who will go 1 1/16 miles on the turf in the Grade 2 American Turf. Other key contenders include Admiral Kitten, War Dancer, Fire Guard, and Positively.

Churchill Downs: Eight Belles provides class test for Calistoga

Tom Keyser
Blueeyesintherein, shown winning the Instant Racing Stakes at Oaklawn, will try to improve to 4 for 4 in the Eight Belles.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Bill Mott said that as Calistoga neared her debut earlier this year, he thought she had the quality to develop into a Grade 1 sprinter, perhaps in something like the Test Stakes this summer at Saratoga. Two starts later, both wins, he’s still of that opinion.

“She’s done nothing wrong,” Mott said at his Churchill Downs barn the other morning. “Now we’re getting to the point where we’ll really find out.”
