ALTOONA, Iowa – Wings of War benefited from an ideal trip under jockey Shane Laviolette and a duel between heavily favored stablemates when rallying for a half-length victory in the $70,000 John Wayne Stakes, a six-furlong sprint for Iowa-breds, at Prairie Meadows on Saturday.

As the Chris Richard-trained coupled entry of Ice Hockey and Cresco Direct Hit, sent off at 3-10, battled through fractions of 22.61 and 45.83 seconds, Wings of War ($13.80) bided his time along the rail before angling three wide approaching the furlong pole and taking aim on the pacesetters.

Ridden by Garrett Gomez, Charlie Em had an ideal trip in the Grade 3 Senorita, winning the one-mile turf race for 3-year-old fillies by a head over Scarlet Strike, the 3-5 favorite. Scarlet Strike was last of eight early, and closed well with a wide rally to just miss winning her second consecutive race.

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - He Has Bling became a stakes winner Saturday at Lone Star Park, when he rallied past dueling leaders to win the $75,000 colts and geldings division of the Texas Stallion Stakes. The one-mile race was the first of three stakes on the program, with Tastefullyxcessive taking the $75,000 fillies division of the Stallion Stakes and Lillie Abbie up for a nose win in the $50,000 Lane’s End Stallion Scholarship.

Maryland shipper Pass You Bye Bye got a perfect trip stalking a contested pace and drew clear in deep stretch to win his stakes debut in the $76,500 Decathlon on opening day Saturday at Monmouth Park.

A 4-year-old son of Rock Slide, Pass You Bye Bye ($8) settled three lengths off dueling pacesetters Luckysdream and Diski Dance through fractions of 21.72 and 44.43 seconds. Luckysdream, the 2-1 second choice in a field reduced to six by two scratches, put his head in front at the eighth pole, but Pass You Bye Bye finished fast under jockey Julian Pimentel to win by a length.

ELMONT, N.Y. - Freedom Child had no chance to make the Kentucky Derby when he lost all chance at the start of the Wood Memorial. Given the way he ran in Saturday’s Grade 2, $200,000 Peter Pan Stakes, Freedom Child could have a big chance in the Belmont Stakes on June 8. Especially if the track is wet.

Despite an awkward start, Freedom Child quickly shot to the front under Luis Saez and turned the Peter Pan into his own personal training session, romping to a 13 1/4-length victory over a sloppy Belmont Park main track.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Good Deed capped a spectacular Saturday afternoon at Churchill Downs for jockey Shaun Bridgmohan when she stormed to a gate-to-wire victory in the feature race, the $64,418 Unbridled Sidney for fillies and mares at five furlongs on the turf.

Palazzo Babe did all the chasing under Rosie Napravnik, settling for second, 4 1/4 lengths behind the winner. Then came Formal Plan and the 2-1 favorite, Holiday for Kitten.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - There was no stopping the speedy Let Em Shine in Saturday’s $71,850 Came Home Stakes at Betfair Hollywood Park.

Making his stakes debut, Let Em Shine ($4.20) led throughout under jockey Edwin Maldonado to win his third consecutive race in the Came Home, run over seven furlongs for 3-year-olds. The victory has made the $500,000 King’s Bishop Stakes for 3-year-old sprinters at Saratoga on Aug. 24 a long-term goal for Let Em Shine, owner William Peeples and trainer Adam Kitchingham said in the winner’s circle.
