Woodbine: On Rainbow Bridge takes Nandi for second stakes win

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - On Rainbow Bridge ($5.50) notched her consecutive second stakes Saturday at Woodbine in the $125,400 Nandi, a six-furlong dash for Ontario-sired 2-year-old fillies.

Skye Chernetz, riding without her apprentice allowance, had On Rainbow Bridge stalking the leaders in a three-wide position in third on the turn. She hit the front nearing the eighth pole, and then held off Paladin Bay to score by 1 1/4 lengths in 1:10.36. Lia’s Miracle finished another two lengths back in third in the nine-horse field.

Parx Racing: Opposites collide in feature

Piquant and Escrow Kid, one moving up in class and the other taking a steep drop, clash for the first time in Tuesday’s $53,000 feature at Parx Racing.

The seventh race, scheduled for 6 1/2 furlongs on the main track, is open to third-level allowance runners and $40,000 claimers. Three of the six entrants, including Escrow Kid, are entered for the $40,000 claiming price.

DEL MAR, Calif. – U’narack, the winner of Friday’s $200,000 Real Good Deal Stakes at Del Mar, may be through with sprints for the near future.

Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said on Saturday that U’narack is likely to make his next start around two turns, with the $100,000 El Cajon Stakes over a mile on Aug. 30 a strong consideration.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Monday’s $100,000 Waya Stakes at Saratoga will have extra special meaning for Jim Baker, trainer of contender Beijoca.

Baker trains Beijoca for the Klein family, which last week lost one of its members when Elaine Klein, who owned horses with her husband Bertram and son Richard, died Wednesday. Her funeral was scheduled for Sunday.

Delaware Park: Do It for Don faces tough trio in Hard Spun

Do It for Don, who has put together a four-race winning streak since late April, faces a challenge from a trio of horses dropping out of Grade 3 stakes company in Monday’s $50,000 Hard Spun Stakes for 3-year-old sprinters at Delaware Park.

Claimed from a maiden victory for $25,000 in February by trainer William Komlo on behalf of M and D Stable, Do It for Don failed when he tried to go a mile in his first start for his new connections. Since then, however, he is unbeaten in four sprints, winning by at least two lengths each time.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – The $75,000 B.C. Cup Classic is the richest of the six stakes races for British Columbia-breds that will be the main focus of the strong Monday holiday card at Hastings. Nonetheless, there is more at stake for the 11 3-year-olds entered in the $50,000 Stellar’s Jay, and a good showing in the 1 1/16-mile race will propel them on a path that could end with a shot in the Grade 3, $150,000 British Columbia Derby on Sept. 9. Northlands: Ready Racer nearing top form

Ready Racer appears to be rounding into the form that saw him win the $50,000 Sun Sprint Championship last year and ultimately be named the 2012 sprinter of the year in Alberta. He was a sharp winner of a $25,000 claiming race July 5 and figures to be a solid favorite when he runs in an optional $35,000 claiming race that will serve as Monday’s feature at Northlands Park.

The six-furlong sprint for 3-year-olds and up drew seven horses and goes as race 7 on an eight race card that begins at 1 p.m. Mountain.
