SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Central Banker, who finished third in the Grade 1 King’s Bishop last Saturday, will attempt to stretch out in distance when he makes his next start in the Grade 2, $500,000 Indiana Derby on Oct. 5.
The Indiana Derby at Indiana Downs is run at 1 1/16 miles around two turns.
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Stretching back out to a mile and in a field where there appears to be a good amount of early speed, Bella Castani looks well spotted to return to the winner’s circle in Friday’s $100,000 Riskaverse Stakes for 3-year-old fillies on turf at Saratoga.
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Between them, they’ve won 43 races and earned more than $2.7 million, but in 106 combined starts, the paths of New York-bred sprint champion Saginaw and graded stakes winner Caixa Eletronica have never crossed.
On Friday, the two popular veterans finally will get an opportunity to meet in a seven-furlong starter-allowance, optional-claiming race that also drew 15-time winner Bernie the Maestro.
DEL MAR, Calif. – Owner Paul Reddam is paying extra to get his fillies Concave and Sprouts in Saturday’s $300,000 Del Mar Debutante.
When entries were taken Wednesday, the Reddam-owned fillies were supplemented for $10,000 to the Grade 1 race for 2-year-old fillies over seven furlongs. They have already paid their way.
VANCOUVER, British Columbia – The value of Hip No. 69 at the upcoming Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society’s yearling and mixed sale went up considerably when her full brother Neverabettercause rallied to edge Andallthatitmeans in the $50,000 CTHS Sales Stakes at Hastings last Friday.
DEL MAR, Calif. – Marshall Faulk has gone from the Colts to a colt. One of the greatest running backs in the history of the National Football League, first with the Indianapolis Colts and then the St. Louis Rams, Faulk is one of the owners of Infinite Magic, who is scheduled to run Sunday in the Grade 2 Del Mar Derby. If Infinite Magic is half as good at racing as Faulk was at football, this investment will be a touchdown.
AUBURN, Wash. – Southern Solution, a speedy sprinter making his first start around two turns, looms the horse to catch and beat Friday in the feature race at Emerald Downs. A $15,000 claimer for 3-year-olds at one mile, the feature is the sixth race on a seven-race program beginning at 6:45 p.m. Pacific.
Lasting Bubbles had been intended for a start in the Grade 3 Gardenia earlier this month at Ellis Park, but her schedule was disrupted and she has instead shipped to Remington Park for Friday night’s $50,000 Ricks Memorial.
The Ricks, a one-mile turf race for fillies and mares, drew a field of 10, including Soonerette, winner of last year’s Oklahoma Classics Turf Distaff at Remington, and Satin Gold, a June allowance winner at Lone Star Park.
ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Delegation was booked on a flight to Churchill Downs on Wednesday after finishing sixth in last Sunday’s Grade 1 Pacific Classic at Del Mar.
After chasing Game On Dude throughout the 1 1/4-mile Pacific Classic, Delegation weakened in the closing yards and was beaten just 1 1/4 lengths for second money under rider Luis Contreras.
“The only way I think anybody could have beaten Game On Dude was if they let us run on the turf course and he ran on the main track,” trainer Mark Casse said.
