The connections of King Kreesa, winner of the Mohawk Stakes last weekend against New York-breds, are hoping to receive an invite to the Hong Kong Mile on Dec. 8, trainer Jeremiah Englehart said Wednesday.
Englehart said he nominated King Kreesa to that race and hopes to hear within two weeks if he will get an invite.
“It’s an opportunity you don’t get to do very often and the horse has been able to do a lot of things,” Englehart said. “I don’t think a trip like that would bother him.”
ELMONT, N.Y. – Initially headed north of the border for this weekend’s $1 million Canadian International at Woodbine, Twilight Eclipse instead is now heading west for the $3 million Breeders’ Cup Turf at Santa Anita on Nov. 2.
Twilight Eclipse prefers firm ground over soft turf and with wet weather forecast over the weekend in Canada, his connections felt it was pointless to run at Woodbine.
“We know he doesn’t handle the soft turf,” said Tom Albertrani, who trains Twilight Eclipse for West Point Thoroughbreds. “We decided to go to the Breeders’ Cup.”
ARCADIA, Calif. - Oscar Party, purchased for $510,000 at the paddock sale at Del Mar in July, will start in the $100,000 Autumn Miss Stakes for 3-year-olds fillies over a mile on turf Saturday.
Owned by Deron Pearson, Oscar Party has started twice since the sale, finishing fifth in the Sandy Blue Handicap at Del Mar and second in the Grade 2 Indiana Oaks at Indiana Downs on Oct. 5.
“I’ve not seen her better since I’ve got her,” trainer Jim Cassidy said.
Cassidy dismissed the loss at Del Mar, saying that Oscar Party “was too far back” after a slow start.
ARCADIA, Calif. – Quiet Force was an unlucky fourth in an optional claimer at Santa Anita on Sept. 29, stuck in traffic in the stretch before losing by two lengths to Tom’s Tribute.
Nearly a month later, the performance looks better. Tom’s Tribute returned to win the Uniformity Stakes on the hillside turf course last Sunday.
ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Joshua Tree, who has sandwiched a pair of Canadian International wins around a second-place finish in the 2011 edition, checked in late Monday evening for another go-around in the Grade 1, $1 million turf race.
The Canadian International, at 1 1/2 miles, will share the spotlight Sunday with the Grade 1, $500,000 E.P. Taylor, a 1 1/4-mile turf stakes for fillies and mares.
“He’s an old hand at this job,” said Andrew Stringer, traveling head lad for Joshua Tree’s trainer, Ed Dunlop. “He’s in good form; he traveled well.”

A Toast to You has seen the last of claiming races for the foreseeable future, following his upset win in the California Flag Handicap on the hillside turf course last Saturday.
Trainer Peter Miller said after the race that he and owners Gary and Cecil Barber had debated whether to run A Toast to You in a $25,000 claimer or the California Flag. They opted for the stakes, which gave A Toast to You his first stakes win in an 18-1 upset.
ARCADIA, Calif. – Game On Dude and Beholder, two of the leading California-based hopes for the Breeders’ Cup, both turned in strong works for their respective races on Tuesday morning at Santa Anita.
Game On Dude, expected to be the favorite in the Classic on Nov. 2, was given an official time of 1:11.40 for six furlongs after working in company for trainer Bob Baffert.
Beholder, part of an expected small but stellar cast for the Distaff on Nov. 1, was timed in 1:24.40 for seven furlongs in a team drill that left her trainer, Richard Mandella, almost giddy.
