Fair Grounds: Ria Antonia likely to go in Rachel Alexandra Stakes

Barbara D. Livingston
Ria Antonia, who won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies, will arrive at Fair Grounds around Dec. 20 after spending 45 days at a farm.

The connections of Ria Antonia, the filly who was placed first through disqualification in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies last fall, have changed plans and now intend to race her in the Rachel Alexandra Stakes rather than the Risen Star Stakes when she makes her 3-year-old debut Feb. 22.

Ron Paolucci, Ria Antonia’s principal owner, proclaimed just after the BC Juvenile Fillies his desire to point Ria Antonia to the 2014 Kentucky Derby, and the Risen Star for males has been her goal since Ria Antonia resumed steady training in December following a short rest.

Gulfstream: Closer Looks for January 29, 2014

Race 2

Edie
Don't care to see what she's done in her two most recent starts, but those were sprint events, and she has run well routing over turf in the past; feel that she's eligible to be ready for better while making just her second start for Walder, especially after being given some time off, and viewing the presence of Rosario as a positive indicator; third-place finisher from latest won next out here on 1/17 going
