“He broke off behind two workmates and finished 10 lengths in front of them,” Hollendorfer said. “He worked real well. He had the fastest work of the day.”

Indiana Derby new target for Atreides

Leslie Martin/Coglianese Photos
Atreides wins the Monarchos Stakes on Aug. 30 at Gulfstream.

Trainer Marty Wolfson has had a change of heart and will now send his Gulfstream-based undefeated 3-year-old sensation Atreides to Indiana Downs for the Grade 3 Indiana Derby on Oct. 4 rather than to Belmont Park for the Grade 2 Kelso Handicap on Sept. 27 as originally planned.

Wolfson said the decision to go to Indiana had more to do with track surface than anything else.

Jones fine-tuning Cassatt for Cotillion

Ryan Denver/Equi-Photo
Cassatt and jockey Kerwin Clark win the Grade 3 Monmouth Oaks by 3 3/4 lengths Saturday.

Highly talented but lightly raced, Cassatt will be taking a huge jump in class when she faces the upper crust of the 3-year-old filly division in Saturday’s Grade 1 Cotillion at Parx.

Trainer Larry Jones lost a good portion of the season with Cassatt when her shins became sore after a January maiden win at Fair Grounds. In two starts since, she has posted an effortless July allowance win at Delaware Park and then stepped up in company to score a front-running 3 3/4-length victory in the Grade 3 Monmouth Oaks on Aug. 9.

Plans for Princess of Sylmar in flux

Barbara D. Livingston
Princess of Sylmar, shown training last month, is unlikely to go for a fifth Grade 1 win in the Beldame on Sept. 27.

ELMONT, N.Y. – Princess of Sylmar, who came out of her fifth-place finish in the Grade 1 Personal Ensign on Aug. 22 with a case of the thumps, is unlikely to make the Grade 1 Beldame on Sept. 27, and plans for her are in flux.

Princess of Sylmar has not worked since the Personal Ensign. Trainer Todd Pletcher said Monday that the four-time Grade 1-winning filly was a little slow to bounce back from her brief illness, which is typically caused by an electrolyte imbalance. Pletcher was hoping to breeze her Sunday or Monday but decided to wait.
