SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Saratoga will host a seminar Sunday for prospective new owners.

Among the guest speakers will be trainers Linda Rice and Gary Contessa and owners Ed Stanco and Roddy Valente as well as representatives from different partnerships, the New York breeders, and an accountant to answer questions.

The day-long seminar begins at 8 a.m. and is hosted by former jockey Richard Migliore and racing analyst Ernie Munick.

The $100 registration fee includes breakfast and lunch, a backstretch tour, winner’s circle presentation, and a gift bag.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Trainer Ron Moquett shipped Far Right to Saratoga to train as he weighs the potential options for the graded stakes-winning 3-year-old.

Far Right, who won the Smarty Jones and Grade 3 Southwest at Oaklawn before finishing a well-beaten second to American Pharoah in the Arkansas Derby, is being considered for the Travers or King’s Bishop at Saratoga and the Smarty Jones at Parx. All three are on Aug. 29.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – David Jacobson plans on being well represented in the Grade 1 sprint races on the Aug. 29 program with Salutos Amigos in the $700,000 Forego and Room for Me in the $500,000 Ballerina. Both races are at seven furlongs.

On Tuesday, both Salutos Amigos and Room for Me put in timed workouts at Saratoga, with Salutos Amigos going an easy half-mile in 53.03 seconds and Room for Me breezing three furlongs in 38.09 seconds.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The decision to keep a small string at Saratoga this summer has paid off handsomely so far for trainer Keith Desormeaux’s stable, which has two stakes wins from seven starters at the meet. There may be more to come.

Hoping to build on his successes with Texas Red in the Grade 2 Jim Dandy on Aug. 1 and Exaggerator in Sunday’s Grade 2 Saratoga Special, Desormeaux will send out Danette in Saturday’s Grade 1, $600,000 Alabama.

Delaware Park, the Delaware Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association, and the Delaware Jockeys’ Association will hold a family fun day benefit for the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund on Saturday.

Retired rider Ramon Dominguez, the all-time leading rider at Delaware Park by wins, will be on hand as a representative of the PDJF.

Activities will include jockey autographs, a country-style barbecue, and pony rides and other activities for children.

The benefit is from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the picnic grove between the paddock area and the clubhouse turn.

Charles Town has added four $30,000 handicaps to the six stakes already scheduled for its Race for the Ribbon card Sept. 19.

The handicaps are for West Virginia-breds and are positioned as prep races for West Virginia Breeders’ Classics night on Oct. 10.

The Roger Ramey will be for 3-year-olds and up at 1 1/16 miles. The Harry Buch, for fillies and mares, will be run at the same distance.

The Dr. Ernest Benner and the Ann Hilton will both be run at 6 1/2 furlongs. The Hilton is restricted to fillies and mares.

A year ago, Lucy’s Bob Boy had taken over the top spot among older West Virginia-breds by defeating Russell Road in three consecutive races. But when the big money was on the line in the $450,000 West Virginia Breeders’ Classic, it was Russell Road who ended his season on a high note by surging late to score a 9-2 upset over 1-2 favorite Lucy’s Bob Boy.

DEL MAR, Calif. – Victor Espinoza has been in a few unexpected places since he rode American Pharoah to a sweep of the Triple Crown in early June.

He has appeared on “Live with Kelly and Michael,” attended the Country Music Awards in Nashville, and was on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” in New York last Friday, taking part in a phone-booth trivia sketch.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Blessed by great weather and large fields, Saratoga has achieved double-digit increases in all-sources and ontrack handle through the first 22 days of the 2015 meet compared to last year.

All-sources handle through Monday, the 22nd day of the 40-day meet, was $344,347,767, a 15.7 percent increase over last year’s total of $297,695,341 over the same time period.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Jockey Angel Cruz suffered a broken left hand as a result of a spill in Monday’s fifth race at Saratoga and will miss at least the remainder of the meet, according to his agent, Bill Castle.

Cruz was aboard Steve’s Image, a first-time starter, in a maiden 2-year-old race on the turf. Leaving the starting gate, Steve’s Image shied away from a horse on his inside - the eventual winner, Pagan - shortly after the start. When Steve's Image veered in, Cruz lost his balance and landed hard on the firm turf course.
