Noteworthy Peach, winner of the Jennings Handicap, could be good enough to challenge open company in stakes this season.

Trainer Gary Capuano plans to give his Maryland-bred stakes runners Noteworthy Peach and Lexington Street the winter off and point to spring campaigns.

The 4-year-old Noteworthy Peach scored a six-length win Dec. 26 in the one-mile Jennings Handicap at Laurel Park. Last spring, Noteworthy Peach finished second against open company in the Federico Tesio Stakes at Pimlico.

Lexington Street finished second by 1 1/2 lengths to Look Who’s Talking in the seven-furlong Maryland Juvenile Filly Championship on Dec. 26.

“They both came back good,” Capuano said.

Forego, WEBN next on stakes slate

With entries to be taken Sunday for the Forego, stakes coordinator Randy Wehrman said he is expecting a sizable field of older horses, including Big Blue Spirit, Doubledown Again, Impassable Canyon, Mesoma, and Plenty Elusive.

◗ As Mike Battaglia continues to phase himself out as the longtime race-caller at Turfway Park, Jimmy McNerney now will be calling races twice a week for the balance of the winter-spring meet.

Look Who's Talking earns time off until turf season

Jim McCue/Maryland Jockey Club
Trainer Robin Graham would like to focus on turf races this spring with Look Who's Talking, winner of the Maryland Juvenile Filly Championship..

Look Who’s Talking, the winner of the Maryland Juvenile Filly Championship on Dec. 26, is going to be given a breather before she begins her 3-year-old season, according to trainer Robin Graham.

The Juvenile Filly Championship was the sixth start and the first stakes win for Look Who’s Talking, who won her career debut at Laurel Park in August.

“It looks like we’re going to give her a couple of weeks off and then bring her back and look to the turf in the spring,” Graham said. “She’s got a long 3-year-old season ahead of her, and it’s a good time to give her a break.”

Gilligan sailing through early days of meet

Jockey Jack Gilligan is making a name for himself in racing – with a little help from the iconic American television show from the 1960s.

“People say, ‘Where’s Skipper?’ and, ‘How did you get off the island?’ ” said Gilligan, referring to the TV show “Gilligan’s Island.” “It’s all in fun. It’s actually been good because it’s easy for people to remember my name.”

Espinoza enjoys wild two-year ride

CYPRESS, Calif. – If you thought you saw jockey Victor Espinoza somewhere, you were probably right. For the past two years, he’s been more omnipresent than Marlin Man, from the winner’s circle at Triple Crown races to under the mirror ball on “Dancing With the Stars” to a recent movie promo shoot with Kevin Hart.

If you want someone to “Ride Along,” who better than Espinoza?

Destin likely to start in Lecomte

Entering eight days ahead of a race, as Fair Grounds is doing for the Jan. 16 program, creates a strange dynamic and gives trainer Todd Pletcher plenty of time to weigh all factors with Destin, whom he said Thursday he will enter in the Lecomte.

“In this particular case, we can enter, see how we draw, breeze, see how he comes out of the breeze, and then ship,” Pletcher said. “Our plan right now is to run.”

Mo Tom is being considered for the Grade 3 Lecomte Stakes on Jan. 16 at Fair Grounds.

Tom Amoss said he would wait until after Harlan Punch worked Thursday morning to decide whether to run him or another 3-year-old he trains, Mo Tom, in the Jan. 16 Lecomte Stakes, but when rain came during Thursday training and Amoss pushed back Harlan Punch’s work to another day, there was no decision left to make: It’s Mo Tom for the Lecomte.

Dancing House might skip Interborough

Barbara D. Livingston
Dancing House has not raced since April.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – When Kiaran McLaughlin nominated Dancing House to Saturday’s $100,000 Interborough Stakes, he thought it would be the ideal spot to bring a filly without any allowance conditions back off a layoff. Little did he know that the race would come up like a graded stakes, with the likes of La Verdad, Room for Me, and Princess Violet.

Thus, McLaughlin said Thursday he might look elsewhere for Dancing House to make her first start since April, when she won an allowance race at Keeneland. She was sidelined thereafter due to an ankle chip that needed to be removed.
