Arnett sending division to Oaklawn

Trainer Jon Arnett, a winner of more than 1,850 races, said he plans to send a small division of horses to the Oaklawn Park meet that opens in January. It will be the first time he has had a string at the Hot Springs, Ark., track since 1983.

Arnett said he also will have horses at Sunland Park following the close of the meet at Zia Park.

Arnett will send a mix of horses to Oaklawn, including Tap The Admiral, who has won his last three starts at three different tracks and set a track record in October at Zia.

Lewis Bay, who this year finished third in the Kentucky Oaks, is coming off her best performance, a 5 1/4-length victory in the Grade 3 Turnback the Alarm at Belmont on Oct. 29.

Libby's Tail wins her racing debut at Belmont.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Trainer Rudy Rodriguez will send out the trio of Jamyson ‘n Ginger, Libby’s Tail, and Bonita Bianca in a field of nine 2-year-old fillies entered for Saturday’s Grade 2, $300,000 Demoiselle.

Jamyson ‘n Ginger won a maiden race at Belmont by 15 1/4 lengths in the mud, earning a 103 Beyer Speed Figure, the highest by a juvenile filly this year. She finished fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies after getting away slowly and racing last into the first turn. Jamyson ‘n Ginger breaks from post 4 in the Demoiselle.

Remsen showdown between Takaful and Mo Town

Barbara D. Livingston
Mo Town was scratched from the Nashua on Nov. 4 due to muscle soreness.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Mo Town and Takaful, arguably the two most impressive 2-year-old maiden winners of the Belmont fall meet, head a field of 10 entered in Saturday’s Grade 2, $300,000 Remsen Stakes at 1 1/8 miles.

Mo Town, a son of Uncle Mo trained by Tony Dutrow, won a one-mile maiden race by seven lengths on Sept. 24. Since that race, a partial interest in the colt was purchased by the Coolmore connections of Susan Magnier, Michael Tabor, and Derrick Smith, in whose colors Mo Town will run Saturday.

Rail draw limits Anchor Down's options in Cigar Mile

Barbara D. Livingston
Anchor Down and jockey Javier Castellano win the Kelso Handicap by two lengths Saturday.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Though Anchor Down has plenty of early speed, his connections haven’t liked it when he’s drawn the rail post position. Anchor Down is winless in three starts breaking from the rail, and back in July he was scratched from the Grade 3, $400,000 Belmont Sprint Championship after drawing the inside post.

Naturally, trainer Todd Pletcher was not thrilled to learn Wednesday that Anchor Down drew the rail in a field of 10 entered for Saturday’s Grade 1, $500,000 Cigar Mile at Aqueduct.

Stakes will have to wait for Trust Factor

The Louisiana-bred 3-year-old Trust Factor impressed many onlookers with a sharp two-length victory Sunday in a statebred-restricted, first-level turf allowance.

“He impressed me, too,” said trainer Mike Maker.

But Maker said the lightly raced son of Paddy O’Prado would make his next start in a second-level, Louisiana-bred grass race rather than stepping up in class to try the $100,000 Champions Day Turf next month.

“We’ll go for the allowance race first and see how he does,” Maker said.

Stall and staff pump out three opening-weekend winners

Seaside Candy, ridden by Brian Hernandez and racing without blinkers, wins the Si Cima by four lengths.

No trainer had a better two-day Fair Grounds opening week than Al Stall, who sent out three winners and two second-place horses from six starters last Saturday and Sunday.

Stall won on Saturday with Louisiana-bred first-time starter Philly and on Sunday swept the card’s last two races with Seaside Candy, who looked good in winning the Si Cima Stakes for Louisiana-bred dirt-route females, and with another Louisiana-bred first-time starter, Sharp Henny.

“Let me tell you, Pam had these suckers ready to roll,” Stall said, referring to his longtime assistant Pam Fitzgerald.

Running Mate joins the Jones ticket

The Lecomte is the first 2017 Fair Grounds stakes race for open 3-year-olds on dirt, and it would not be unfair to look at the featured eighth race Friday at Fair Grounds as the first local step toward the Lecomte.

The six-furlong race for 2-year-olds is open to first-level allowance horses or $50,000 claimers, and its winner will likely be pointed for a stakes race of some sort, be it the Jan. 21 Lecomte or something not so distant.

Ivan Fallunovalot gets a rest ahead of Oaklawn meet

Jim McCue/Maryland Jockey Club
Ivan Fallunovalot has won six of his seven starts since August 2015.

If there’s one rooting interest Texas and Oklahoma have in common, it might be Ivan Fallunovalot.

The reigning Texas-bred Horse of the Year who is based at Remington Park in Oklahoma City swept into Maryland last weekend and won the Grade 3 Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash.

Ivan Fallunovalot returned to his Remington base from Laurel Park on Monday night, said trainer Tom Howard. The horse won his fourth consecutive race in the De Francis, his final start of the year.

“Ivan came out of the race real good,” said Howard, who trains the horse for Lewis Matthews Jr.
