ARCADIA, Calif. – Trainer Mike Mudaris has been fined $17,500 and suspended 18 months after two of his horses that ran at the 2016 Del Mar summer meeting tested positive for the prohibited medication sildenafil, which is more commonly known by the trade name Viagra.

Sildenafil, a Class 1 drug, is thought by some to have the potential to decrease bleeding in the lungs, but studies of the class of drugs that includes Sildenafil have show that the drug is unlikely to have any effect on a racehorse.

Trainer Andy Gladd has been on such a roll this year that he sent out a 41-1 shot for a half-length win in a deep field in last month’s Kip Deville at Remington Park. Final Arrow paid $85.

Gladd, who has won seven races from 41 starts at Remington, is on pace to eclipse his best year as a trainer, which came in 2012. He won 36 races that year and his trainees earned $418,168. So far in 2017, the Gladd stable has won 33 races and earned $357,790.

“It’s been super,” said Gladd, a 52-year-old native of Tahlequah, Okla.

Terra’s Angel has come home to Texas. The winner of the Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf on Sept. 4, she will headline the $75,000 La Senorita Stakes on Saturday night at Retama Park near San Antonio. She drew post 2 of nine for the one-mile turf race for 2-year-old fillies. The La Senorita will share a card with the $75,000 El Joven, a mile turf race for 2-year-olds that drew 12.

The La Senorita is slotted as the fifth race, and the El Joven the seventh. First post for the nine-race card is 6:45 p.m. Central.

MIAMI – With the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint being held at five furlongs at Del Mar this year, the connections of the Gulfstream Park West-based Pay Any Price were looking forward to the opportunity of pitting their veteran speedster against the best in the division next month in California.

Unfortunately for co-owners Richard Averill and the Matties Racing Stable, it appears that dream will have to wait another year.

ELMONT, N.Y. – Rubilinda, who has shown an electrifying closing kick sprinting, will stretch out to a mile when she heads a field of nine entered Monday for Saturday’s $200,000 Pebbles Stakes, scheduled for Belmont’s Widener turf course.

The first progeny of Frankel to win in North America, Rubilinda has won two of her first three starts, both at six furlongs. She finished second in a seven-furlong allowance here in July.

Rubilinda, trained by Chad Brown for Don Alberto Stable, drew post 2 and will be ridden by Jose Ortiz. Brown also entered Thais in the Pebbles.

ELMONT, N.Y. – Mojovation took himself out of consideration for a start in last weekend’s Grade 1 Champagne Stakes when, in the estimation of his trainer Todd Pletcher, he didn’t work up to par.

Mojovation put himself in the entry box for a start in next Saturday’s Grade 3, $150,000 Futurity at Belmont Park with a better breeze over Belmont Park’s training track.

Mojovation was one of six 2-year-olds entered Monday in the Futurity, a six-furlong race that shares billing on Saturday’s 10-race card with the $200,000 Pebbles Stakes for 3-year-old fillies on turf.

ARCADIA, Calif. – Javier Castellano has picked up the mount on West Coast for the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic on Nov. 4 at Del Mar, trainer Bob Baffert said Monday.

Mike Smith rode West Coast to his recent victories in the Travers Stakes and Pennsylvania Derby, but he will ride defending race winner Arrogate in the Classic.

ARCADIA, Calif. – Gun Runner, the favorite for the Breeders’ Cup Classic, led a roster of prominent potential Breeders’ Cup participants who worked on Monday morning at Santa Anita.

Trainer Steve Asmussen was in town for the day and watched Gun Runner go five furlongs in 1:01.60. The work was the second of four planned for Gun Runner here at Santa Anita before he heads to Del Mar for his final work prior to the $6 million Classic on Nov. 4.

ARCADIA, Calif. – Unique Bella tagged along with trainer Jerry Hollendorfer’s stable through the spring and summer, a bench player with a stellar portfolio.

From Santa Anita to Del Mar and back to Santa Anita, Unique Bella did not race while recovering from sore shins that forced her out of training in March, weeks after her third consecutive stakes win. Instead, Unique Bella was rested and slowly brought back to training for a fall campaign.

ELMONT, N.Y. - Separationofpowers bounced back from her third-place finish in the Grade 1 Spinaway by rallying from a stalking position to win Sunday’s Grade 1 Frizette, thus earning her spot in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.

Separationofpowers was a little reluctant at first to go by the two horses in front of her in upper stretch, but once Jose Ortiz motivated her she did kick in and won by a comfortable 3 1/2 lengths over Caledonia Road.
