“If it’s meant to be, it’s going to happen,” Baffert told a media throng after Justify went five furlongs in 1:01.40. “Right now, all we can do is prepare.”

Shigeki Kikkawa
Blackjackcat won three consecutive turf stakes before the Breeders' Cup Mile.

ARCADIA, Calif. – The multiple stakes winner Blackjackcat has been sent to the farm of owners Al and Sandee Kirkwood in Washington after a series of disappointing performances in turf stakes this year, trainer Mark Glatt said.

Third in the 2017 Breeders’ Cup Mile at Del Mar, Blackjackcat most recently was seventh in the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile at Santa Anita on May 28, finishing 2 1/2 lengths behind race winner Hunt. Hofburg likely a serious threat to Justify's bid

Barbara Livingston
Hofburg, under Penny Gardiner, worked a half-mile over the Churchill Downs main track on Sunday.

ELMONT, N.Y. - That Hofburg will compete in two legs of the Triple Crown is more a function of the horse than his trainer.

Having not made his 3-year-old debut until March 3, Hofburg was considered more of a summertime 3-year-old than a spring classic campaigner by his Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott.
