Coachwhip might return to Arlington for Modesty

Coady Photography
Coachwhip drew clear for a 3 1/2-length victory in the Grade 3 Arlington Matron on Saturday.

Jack Sisterson had confidence Coachwhip would be just fine in her first start over a synthetic surface last weekend in the Grade 3 Matron Stakes at Arlington.

“She trains well on dirt and runs well on turf and going into this race we thought the surface wasn’t going to be an issue,” said Sisterson, who trains Coachwhip for her breeder, Calumet Farm. “I’m not right very often.”

Barbara D. Livingston

ELMONT, N.Y. – Everfast won the first race of his career and has lost 10 straight since, but his runner-up finish in the Preakness behind War of Will and the way he has trained since has given trainer Dale Romans the confidence that Everfast is headed the right direction heading into the 151st Belmont Stakes on Saturday.

Everfast – a grandson of Belmont winner A.P. Indy – completed his training for the Belmont on Monday at Churchill Downs, where head clocker John Nichols had him going five furlongs in 1:01 and galloping out six furlongs in 1:13.60 and seven furlongs in 1:28.

War of Will finds himself the last one standing from Derby

Debra A. Roma
Preakness winner War of Will will be the only horse to run in all three legs of the Triple Crown this year.

ELMONT, N.Y. – There were 19 horses who raced in the Kentucky Derby, only four of whom came back in the Preakness, only one of whom will run in the Belmont Stakes on Saturday here at Belmont Park. Paradise Woods, La Force could see rematch at Del Mar

Emily Shields
After stumbling at the start, Paradise Woods wound up second in Saturday's Santa Maria Stakes.

ARCADIA, Calif. – Prior to Saturday’s Grade 2 Santa Maria Stakes at Santa Anita, trainer John Shirreffs said he hoped Paradise Woods could win as a heavy favorite to achieve consecutive stakes wins for the first time in her three-year career.

The goal will have to wait until the early autumn, at the earliest.

La Force (5-1) beat Paradise Woods by 1 1/4 lengths in the $200,000 Santa Maria Stakes after the 1-5 favorite stumbled at the start and raced in traffic in a field of five fillies and mares.

Maximum Security puts in work, might go in Pegasus Stakes

Ryan Denver/EQUI-PHOTO
Maximum Security works under exercise rider Edelberto Rivas at Monmouth Park on Sunday.

Trainer Jason Servis worked Maximum Security on Sunday at Monmouth Park, his second serious piece of exercise since the Kentucky Derby.

In typical Servis style, Maximum Security two-minute licked a mile and then galloped out an extra furlong. The Monmouth Park clockers did not credit him with an official workout.

On May 22, in his first work since the Derby, Maximum Security went through a similar exercise regimen, with clockers giving him a time of 53.80 seconds for the final four furlongs of his first mile.
