The best racehorse in the world during 2024 and the best racehorse in Hong Kong the last two seasons – not a bad get for a late-January card at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai.
Zac Purton stands alone as the jockey with the most wins in Hong Kong racing history after successes aboard Spirit Of Peace in the third section of the Class 4 Kowloon Park Handicap (1200m) and View Of The World in the second section of the Class 3 Victoria Park Handicap (1200m) at Happy Valley on Wednesday night (22 January).

Fresh from Ka Ying Rising’s stunning triumph in the G1 Centenary Sprint Cup (1200m) on Sunday (19 January), David Hayes hopes Sight Happy can propel Zac Purton closer towards Hong Kong history at Happy Valley on Wednesday night (22 January).
A clean trip will be vital for Zany Girl when the Southern Hemisphere 2-year-old filly starts for the third time in Saturday’s Kevin Elwick Stakes at 5 1/2 furlongs at Hobart Racecourse in Australia.
Zany Girl won her first two starts from off the pace in five-furlong races at Hobart – against maidens on Dec. 15, and in an allowance race as the odds-on favorite in a field of 10 on Jan. 3.
Mufasa, the Chilean-bred 6-year-old who won the Grade 3 Vosburgh on Sept. 28 and the Grade 3 Mr. Prospector on Dec. 28, has been sold by owners Carlos Saavedra and Stud Vendaval to Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi’s RRR Racing, trainer Ignacio Correas said this week.
Correas said that Mufasa, by Practical Joke, was bought with the intent of starting the horse in the $2 million Riyadh Dirt Sprint on Feb. 22 in Saudi Arabia. Correas said he would be listed as the horse’s trainer through that start, but that he didn’t expect Mufasa to return to America.

Osipenko, the 5-year-old New Zealand-bred gelding who starts in Friday’s $124,200 January Cup at Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, Australia, is winless in 16 starts since May 2023.
It’s a harsh statistic, and not necessarily a true indication of Osipenko’s recent performances.
On Dec. 26, Osipenko was second by nose in the Summer Cup at 1 1/4 miles at Royal Randwick Racecourse in Sydney, leading in the stretch before being caught at the wire. Osipenko carried 122.3 pounds compared to 116.8 for race winner Tavi Time.
