Ka Ying Rising primed for Sha Tin season-opener as champion sprinter bids for successful return

Ka Ying Rising this morning effortlessly completed fast-work preparations for the HK$3.72 million Class 1 HKSAR Chief Executive’s Cup Handicap (1200m) at Sha Tin on Sunday (7 September), when the world’s highest-rated sprinter bids to extend his winning streak to 13 straight races.

Partnered by regular rider Zac Purton, Hong Kong’s reigning Horse Of The Year sauntered down the back straight on Sha Tin’s dirt track before upping the tempo over the final 400m, clocking 24.1s and pleasing trainer David Hayes.

Karis Teetan is relishing the challenge as he prepares for another campaign in Hong Kong when the 2025/26 racing season kicks off this Sunday (7 September) at Sha Tin. 

Teetan, 35, has amassed a remarkable 733 Hong Kong wins across his career in the city, the second most of any rider on the current roster behind Zac Purton (1,878). The Mauritian returns hoping to build on his 44 wins netted in 2024/25 and, while lower in comparison to his regular highs, he is not one to dwell.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club (the Club) will launch the 2025/2026 racing season on 7 September with a game-changing racecourse arrival and customer experience at Grandstand II, Sha Tin Racecourse. Champions Connection will connect arriving visitors with an immersive digital environment inspired by horse and nature, while Gensō Eki will provide digital horse racing experiences in an immersive dining and digital entertainment venue. Both will further promote horse racing and the racecourse as a must-go experience for both locals and tourists, particularly the younger generation.

Japan: Awesome Result looks to repeat in Breeders’ Gold Cup

Awesome Result was a vet scratch from last year’s Breeders’ Cup Distaff.

Awesome Result, scratched from the 2024 Breeders’ Cup Distaff at Del Mar after failing a vet check, runs for the third time this year in Thursday’s $358,900 Breeders’ Gold Cup in Japan.

Last year, Awesome Result won the Breeders’ Gold Cup by five lengths, a performance that propelled her into contention for the BC Distaff.

A 5-year-old Kentucky-bred mare by Justify, Awesome Result is part of a field of nine in the Breeders’ Gold Cup for fillies and mares at 1 1/4 miles at Mombetsu Racecourse in Northern Japan.

France: Venetian Sun gets up over Gstaad to win Prix Morny

With her victory in the Group 3 Prestige Stakes on Sunday, Precise earned a spot in the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf on Oct. 31 at Del Mar.

The 2-year-old filly Venetian Sun remained unbeaten and the 5-year-old mare Quisisana remained unbeaten this year, each winning a Group 1 race Sunday at Deauville Racecourse in France.

Venetian Sun got home by a head over favored Gstaad in the Group 1 Prix Morny, running her mark to four wins from four starts for England-based trainer Karl Burke. Venetian’s Sun jockey, Clifford Lee, scored his first Group 1 victory as Venetian Sun stepped up from Group 2 and Group 3 victories to capture the Morny, run over a straight six furlongs.
