The victory by Cherokee's Boy in the Tri-State Futurity on Oct. 26 was the kind of stunning performance rarely seen in a stakes. In the seven-furlong race run at Charles Town's six-furlong oval, Cherokee's Boy, a 2-year-old son of Citidancer, broke quickly in the eight-horse field and proceeded to gallop away under Ryan Fogelsonger, finishing 21 3/4 lengths ahead of Forever Joe.

"He looked like he was having fun," said co-owner Foard Wilgis, who with partner Dave Picarello campaigns the homebred colt under the ZWP Stable banner. "I was happily shocked."

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Ashford Stud, the North American division of Irish-based Coolmore Stud, will trim stud fees for Fusaichi Pegasus, Giant's Causeway, and Thunder Gulch in 2003. Johannesburg, last year's North American juvenile champion, will debut at the Versailles, Ky., farm with a $30,000 fee.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Grade 2 winner E Dubai has retired from racing and is expected to arrive on Nov. 1 at Sheikh Mohammed al Maktoum's Jonabell Farm in Kentucky.

E Dubai, a 4-year-old Mr. Prospector colt, will stand for a fee of $15,000. The winner of the Grade 2 Suburban Handicap at Belmont this year last ran in the Breeders' Cup Classic on Oct. 26, finishing 11th of 12. His last win was in the Suburban at Belmont Park on July 6.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Starine, winner of the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf last Saturday, could become the first Breeders' Cup winner sold at auction the year of her victory. Listed at Hip No. 407 in the Keeneland November sale, which begins Tuesday, and consigned through the Mill Ridge Farm of John and Alice Chandler, Starine is cataloged as a broodmare prospect, but she also still has significant potential as a racehorse.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - If someone made a movie about Siberian Summer's stallion career, it could be called "Sire, Interrupted." But two relocations have not prevented this young sire from getting four stakes winners from his first two crops at the racetrack.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Multiple Grade 1 winner Beat Hollow, a leading Eclipse Award contender as turf male, has retired from racing after his sixth-place finish in the Breeders' Cup Mile. Beat Hollow, by Sadler's Wells, will enter stud in England next year at Banstead Manor Stud, which is owned by his owner and breeder, Khaled Abdullah.

Campaigned by Abdullah's Juddmonte Farms, 5-year-old Beat Hollow began his career in England, where he became a respected runner, with a record that included a third behind Sinndar and Sakhee in the 2000 Epsom Derby.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Multiple Grade 1 winner Came Home, retired from racing this week to stand at Lane's End in Versailles, Ky., will enter stud with a $50,000 fee.

Lane's End announced the fee Wednesday, one day after Came Home arrived there.

Came Home last competed in the Breeders' Cup Classic, in which he finished 10th. According to a Lane's End release issued Wednesday, the 3-year-old Gone West colt sustained an injury in that race.

Led by a $145,000 sale-topper, the Barretts October mixed sale ended Tuesday evening with strong gains across the board.

Day Jewels, a 10-year-old Slew o' Gold mare out of Laday (Lyphard), was the two-day auction's most expensive lot. Magali Ventures, LLC, purchased Day Jewels from Golden Eagle Farm. Day Jewels, in foal to Golden Eagle's millionaire Event of the Year, is a stakes-winning half-sister to Grade 2 winner Big Sur.

The Barretts Equine Limited's two-day October mixed sale in Pomona, Calif., posted gains across the board at its opening session on Monday.

The session sold 213 lots for $1,604,800, up dramatically from the $887,900 for last year's smaller catalog, which grossed from 180 lots sold. This year, the first-day average price rose 53 percent, from $4,933 to $7,534, and the median climbed 23 percent, from $3,250 to $4,000.

Monday's session-topper was the $110,000 broodmare Picturesque Lady, in foal to Event of the Year, that Paula Capestro bought from Golden Eagle Farm.
