LEXINGTON, Ky. - Ireland's Goffs Orby sale, which concluded Friday in County Kildare, made only moderate gains on its 2003 edition.
The five-day auction saw some high-priced lots, most notably the $806,715 Green Desert-Simaat filly that John Magnier bought from Camas Park Stud. That filly topped the sale, followed by another filly, a $682,605 daughter of Fantastic Light and Sabaah, which Sheikh Mohammed al Maktoum's representative, John Ferguson, bought from the Irish National Stud.
LEXINGTON, Ky. - El Prado already has been the leading sire in the U.S. by total progeny earnings, and he is the most successful son of the great stallion Sadler's Wells at stud in America or anywhere else. This year, three of the four best 3-year-old turf horses are by El Prado, with only Prince Arch (by Arch) by another sire.
Two New York-bred 3-year-olds were head-turning winners at Belmont Park in the last 10 days.
On Sept. 24, Commentator, a son of Distorted Humor, remained undefeated in three starts after winning a second-level allowance for New York-breds by 9 3/4 lengths. He set a track-record time of 1:27.44 for the rarely run distance of 7 1/2 furlongs at Belmont. The combined margin of victory for Commentator's three wins is 27 1/4 lengths.

Harmony Lodge, a Grade 1-winning sprinter, has retired from racing and will be bred to A.P. Indy in 2005, owners Eugene and Laura Melnyk announced Thursday. A 6-year-old Hennessy mare, Harmony Lodge will join the Melnyks' broodmare band at their Winding Oaks Farm in Ocala, Fla.
The Melnyks decided to retire her when she developed inflammation in her right front ankle, trainer Todd Pletcher said.
Grade 1 winner Dimitrova will be offered at auction this fall at Keeneland's November breeding stock sale, owner Joseph Higgins has announced.
The winner of the 2003 Flower Bowl Invitational Handicap and American Oaks, both Grade 1 races, Dimitrova will sell as part of Indian Creek's consignment. The sale runs from Nov. 8-19 in Lexington, Ky.
Dimitrova is a 4-year-old Swain filly out of the champion Caerleon mare The Caretaker, making her a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner Mutafaweq.
