Touch Gold colt gets $290K

Fasig-Tipton Midlantic's Eastern fall yearling sale, expanded this year from two days to three, entered its second session Tuesday at Timonium, Md., with eight horses selling early in the day for $100,000 or more.

By 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Fasig-Tipton was reporting a sale-leading price of $290,000 for a Touch Gold colt out of Georgia K. Sold by Thornmar, the colt went to Wensleydale Farm. He is a half-brother to Grade 1-placed stakes winner Aggadan and to stakes winner Love You Madly.

High Demand colt early topper

A colt by High Demand was purchased for $290,000 at Tuesday's Barretts California October yearling sale, bringing the highest price in the first three hours of the one-day sale.

The High Demand colt was bought by trainer John Sadler, agent, who said he was acting on behalf of a newly formed syndicate of existing racehorse owners. Golden Eagle Farm of Ramona, Calif., consigned the colt, who is from the first crop of High Demand, whose oldest foals are yearlings.

The colt is out of the unraced Kingmambo mare Cover Letter.

Megahertz to Keeneland sale

Two-time Grade 1 winner Megahertz will sell at auction at Keeneland's upcoming November breeding stock sale, Taylor Made Farm announced Monday.

Megahertz, who has earned $2.2 million and won 13 stakes, will join champion Ashado and the Dr. Carter mare Cloud Break, dam of undefeated Grade 1 winner Lost in the Fog, in the Taylor Made consignment.

Megahertz is scheduled to run next in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Belmont on Oct. 29. She will sell at Keeneland as Hip No. 47 on Nov. 7, at the auction's opening session.

Perigee Moon off to fast start with first crop

The latest buzz in the Ontario racing and breeding industry became even louder on Wednesday, when Tothemoonandback became the third impressive winner for freshman sire Perigee Moon.

Not only has the 7-year-old stallion made an impression with his runners, but at last month's Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society selected yearling sale session at Woodbine, five offspring of Perigee Moon sold for an average of $90,000.

The co-sale-topper at $190,000 was a full brother to Tothemoonandback, purchased by D. Morgan Firestone.

Combined sale to take market's temperature

Tuesday's California October yearling sale at Barretts in Pomona will offer a keen perspective on the health of the California bloodstock market.

The first-time sale is something of an all-star event, a merger of the state's two leading sales - the defunct Del Mar yearling sale, which had been conducted annually in August by the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association, and the Barretts October yearling sale, which attracted a second tier of yearlings behind Del Mar.

Kingmambo colt tops Goffs sale

A Kentucky-bred colt by Kingmambo was the $2.16 million sale-topper of the three-day Goffs Orby yearling sale in Kill, County Kildare, Ireland.

According to the sales company, Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum purchased the colt, the first foal out of the Sadler's Wells mare Karsavina, who finished third in the Group 1 Irish Oaks in 2001. Karsavina is also a half-sister to Urbane, a Grade 1-winning mare who raced in the U.S.

Deal may be imminent for Afleet Alex at stud

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Afleet Alex, winner of this year's Preakness and Belmont, may soon have a destination for his stud career.

A 3-year-old Northern Afleet colt, Afleet Alex is attempting to come back from a hairline fracture in time for the Oct. 29 Breeders' Cup Classic. As he does so, his owners are negotiating potential deals for Afleet Alex's breeding rights that could put the colt's value as high as $20 million, according to one bloodstock agent who has been involved in discussions with the owners.
