Several fashionably bred weanlings available

More than 40 New York-bred weanlings are cataloged to the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic December winter mixed sale that begins Sunday in Timonium, Md. They will be sold during the weanling session, which starts 10 a.m. Monday.

Several prominent New York pedigrees are represented in the contingent, including a Wheelaway colt whose dam, Made for Eachother, is a half-sister to statebred Prospector's Flag, winner of the Grade 3 Discovery Handicap in 1993.

Prospector's Flag was by Personal Flag, who at the time stood in New York at John Hettinger's Akindale Farm.

Broken Vow hits ground running as stallion

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Victory in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes added a bit of polish to the juvenile season of the promising graded stakes winner Private Vow. A bay son of freshman sire Broken Vow, Private Vow had won the Futurity Stakes at Belmont in September and had been one of the favorites in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, but he finished last.

There was, however, a legitimate excuse for that disappointment. During the Juvenile, the left rein on the colt's bridle broke, causing a loss of balance, momentum, and any chance of a competitive placing.
