Maybry's Boy starts at $2,500

Maybry's Boy will begin his stud career at Highcliff Farm in Delanson, N.Y., where his fee for the 2008 season will be $2,500, live foal.

The son of multiple Grade 1 winner and top sire Broad Brush is owned by Randy Hill's RCH Stables and captured the Grade 3 Spectacular Bid Stakes during his career.

Maybry's Boy is out of Aly's Conquest, by Alydar, and earned $322,700 with eight wins in his career.

"He offers breeders a real opportunity for outcrossing and has a rich and deep pedigree," said Suzie O'Cain of Highcliff Farm.

Macho Uno among stallions hitting the road

No doubt about it, there has been a great deal of relocation going on in Florida's stallion roster for the 2008 breeding season. Among those with significant roster changes is Frank Stronach's Adena Springs South as well as the Vinery, which has added several stallions who had previously stood nearby.

California's class of '07 holds its own nationally

Not so long ago, it was possible to become California-bred horse of the year on the strength of a solitary victory in a Grade 1 or Grade 2 race with a few lesser stakes thrown in.

Those days are over.

This year, Lava Man and Nashoba's Key have each won two Grade 1 races, one more than fellow statebreds Bilo, Idiot Proof, and River's Prayer. Those five proved the leading California-breds of 2007 could race against the best in the nation.

Spendthrift sets stallion fees

B. Wayne Hughes's Spendthrift Farm, which recently moved Hughes's stallions Malibu Moon and champion Action This Day to Spendthrift from nearby Castleton Lyons, will stand the horses in 2008 for $40,000 and $10,000, respectively. The fees are the same as the horses' 2007 fees.

Malibu Moon is the sire of the 2004 champion juvenile, Declan's Moon, and Malibu Mint, a Grade 1 winner in 2006.

Spendthrift also will stand Teton Forest for $5,000 and Don't Get Mad for $3,000, the same as in 2007.

Indian Charlie top price at Airdrie

Airdrie Stud in Midway, Ky., has released its 2008 stud fees, and Indian Charlie will top the list at $50,000.

Airdrie also introduces the 2005 juvenile champion, Stevie Wonderboy, at $17,500 and Grade 1 winner Flashy Bull at $10,000.

Indian Charlie's runners this year included Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies and Frizette winner Indian Blessing. His fee last year was listed as private and was reported in SireAverages.com as $40,000.

Adena Springs keeps Awesone Again's fee at $150K

Frank Stronach's Adena Springs will keep Awesome Again's fee at $150,000 for 2008, the same fee he carried in 2007.

Awesome Again's standout runners this year include Ginger Punch, winner of the Breeders' Cup Distaff, and Awesome Gem, third in the BC Classic.

Vinery raises fees for two top stallions

Two Vinery stallions who have had exceptional years in 2007 have gotten significant fee hikes for 2008.

More Than Ready, whose juvenile son Ready's Image won the Grade 2 Sanford and the Tremont, will rise from $40,000 to $60,000. And Posse, currently the nation's leading freshman sire with such runners as Kodiak Kowboy, third in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile and a Grade 2 winner, and Lantana Mob, a Grade 3 winner, will go from $12,500 to $30,000.

Spendthrift adds two stallions

Owner B. Wayne Hughes will move Malibu Moon and Action This Day from Castleton Lyons in Lexington, Ky., to his own Spendthrift Farm nearby, doubling Spendthrift's 2008 stallion roster.

Malibu Moon - whose runners include the 2004 juvenile champion, Declan's Moon, and Grade 1 winner Malibu Mint - and Action This Day, the 2003 champion juvenile, will join Teton Forest and Don't Get Mad at Spendthrift. Their fees will be announced later.

Spendthrift also announced the hiring of former Stonewall manager Ken Wilkins as stallion director.

Macho Uno moving to Kentucky

Macho Uno, whose first crop of 2-year-olds this year included Grade 1 winner Wicked Style, will relocate from Frank Stronach's Adena Springs South in Florida to Stronach's Adena Springs Kentucky division.

Macho Uno, currently ranked sixth among first-crop stallions in North America, also will get a fee hike from the $12,500 he stood for in 2007 to $20,000 in the coming breeding season.
