Invisible Ink moving to stand in Pennsylvania

Invisible Ink, runner-up in the 2001 Kentucky Derby after nearly losing his life at 2, will relocate to Pennsylvania’s Pin Oak Lane Farm.

The 12-year-old previously stood in Ocala, Fla., at Rising Hill Farm. His 2011 stud fee at Pin Oak Lane in New Freedom, Pa., will be the same as his 2010 fee, $1,500, but breeders sending two or more mares to him will receive a $500 discount on the 2011 fee.

Barretts sale to feature dispersals

The Barretts auction house in Pomona, Calif., has cataloged 392 horses for its Jan. 24 winter mixed sale in the Hinds Pavilion at Fairplex Park. The auction also features bloodstock from the dispersals of Applebite Farm, LaJolla Thoroughbred Stables, and the Walter Family Trust. Applebite also will be acting as agent on behalf of Zayat Stables, whose horses for sale include the Grade 1-placed sire E Z Warrior. Catalogs are available at www.barretts.com.

Vinery's Australian division buys into Pluck, winner of BC Juvenile Turf

The Kentucky-based Vinery’s Australian division has bought what it called “a major share” in Pluck, winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf.

The deal virtually guarantees that Pluck eventually will enter stud in Australia – where his sire, More Than Ready – already is a leading stallion -- at the end of his racing career.

Fasig-Tipton sale in Texas sees gross and average increase. but median declines

Fasig-Tipton’s Texas December mixed sale on Monday ended with sharply mixed results, as gross receipts and the average price increased by double digits but median fell.

The one-day auction at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas, grossed $307,900 for 76 horses, a 26-percent increase over last year’s $245,300 for 74 horses. The average jumped 22 percent, from last year’s $3,315 to $4,051. But the median price checked in at $1,900, a figure that was 24 percent lower than last year’s $2,500. The buy-back rate was 34 percent, up from 25 percent in 2009.

Catalogs for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s winter mixed auction are online at www.obssales.com. The Jan. 18-19 sale will take place in Ocala, Fla., and has 522 horses in its catalog, including 238 yearlings. The auction opens Jan. 18 at 11 a.m. with a consignor-preferred session featuring Hip Nos. 1-190. Day two, also at 11 a.m., is an open session.

Discreetly Mine to stand at Lane's End

LEXINGTON, Ky. – King’s Bishop Stakes winner Discreetly Mine, recently retired from racing because of a stifle injury, will start his stud career at Lane’s End Farm in Kentucky.

Lane’s End announced Monday that Discreetly Mine will stand as the property of a syndicate with a $15,000 fee in 2011.

Walmac offering fee reduction for out-of-state foals

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Walmac Farm here will offer a $2,000 stud fee reduction for foals sired by the farm’s Kentucky stallions but born out of state in 2012.

The deal applies to four of the farm’s five Kentucky stallions: Bandini, Hat Trick, Ready’s Image, and Songandaprayer.

Successful Appeal, the most expensive of Walmac’s Kentucky stallions with a $15,000 advertised fee, was not included in the offer Walmac e-mailed to its stallion clients on Wednesday.
