Jade Hunter, sire of Azeri, euthanized

Jade Hunter, sire of three-time champion and 2002 Horse of the Year Azeri, was 27.

Jade Hunter, dual Grade 1 winner and sire of Hall of Fame mare Azeri, has died at age 27 in Lexington. Ky.

A Mr. Prospector horse, Jade Hunter was euthanized Jan. 23 at the Hagyard Equine Medical Institute because of complications from colic. Since 2009, he had been a pensioner at the Old Friends equine retirement facility in Georgetown, Ky.

Bold Roberta among five broodmares Ullman will sell at Barretts

Larry Ullman, who races and breeds as SLU Inc., is offering a reduction of his broodmare holdings at Monday’s Barretts January Mixed Sale in Pomona, Calif.

One of the five broodmares he has in the sale is Bold Roberta, a 13-year-old Bold Badgett mare who earned $449,704. Bold Roberta sells in foal to Fusaichi Pegasus, and is expected to attract significant attention from breeders.

Fasig-Tipton select Florida sale to offer 240 juveniles

Fasig-Tipton has cataloged 240 juveniles for its select 2-year-old auction, dubbed The Florida Sale, on March 3 in Palm Beach County. Catalogs are online now at www.fasigtipton.com and will be available in Fasig-Tipton offices starting Jan. 27.

The sale, previously held at Calder race Course in Miami, relocates to the Palm Meadows Training Center in 2011.

River Edge consignment tops Barretts January Mixed Sale

Barretts in Pomona, Calif., launches its 2011 calendar Monday with the January Mixed Sale, which features a 40-horse consignment from River Edge Farm, the first phase of a dispersal of the Walter Family Trust, and scores of broodmares.

Monday’s sale is a one-day event. In 2010, the sale was a two-day event dominated by a reduction in the holdings of Jenny Craig, which accounted for $697,600 of the $2,013,000 overall gross. The sale average of $7,320 was a gain of 20 percent over 2009.

Two-time BC Mile winner Miesque dead at age 27

Miesque wins her first Breeders' Cup Mile at Hollywood Park in 1987.

Miesque, the first two-time winner of a Breeders’ Cup race and a champion in both Europe and America, was euthanized Thursday due to the infirmities of old age at Lane’s End Farm in Kentucky, where she had been pensioned following a brilliant career as a broodmare. She was 27 years old.

A $47,000 broodmare carrying a Congrats foal brought Wednesday’s top price. On Tuesday, a Congrats yearling colt brought the auction’s top price of $100,000. Both sessions enjoyed large gains over last year’s figures.

Suave relocating to Vinery Florida

Multiple graded stakes winner Suave will relocate from Darby Dan Farm in Kentucky to Vinery’s Florida property, the two farms announced Tuesday.

The 10-year-old A.P. Indy horse will stand at Vinery Florida for $4,500, down from his previously advertised Darby Dan fee of $10,000.
