LEXINGTON, Ky. - A pair of seven-figure colts by A. P. Indy and Street Cry lifted the market Sunday night at the Keeneland September yearling auction’s opening select session, which saw significant gains across the board.
A. P. Indy’s son out of Malka brought $1.4 million from a partnership including Robert “Shel” Evans and John Amerman, and Street Cry’s colt out of Forest Music went for $1.2 million to George Bolton.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario — Three yearlings brought $45,000 each to top the open session of the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society’s annual sale of Canadian-bred yearlings at the Woodbine Sales Pavilion on Saturday.
The Thoroughbred Club of America has chosen breeder and owner George Strawbridge, Jr., of Augustin Stable as its 2011 Honored Guest, the Kentucky-based organization announced Friday.
The organization will honor Strawbridge at its 80th annual testimonial dinner at Keeneland Racecourse on Oct. 30.
LEXINGTON, Ky. – As the two-week Keeneland September yearling sale neared its Sunday opening in Lexington, the big questions are whether the market’s upper crust can continue Saratoga’s buoyant performance and whether the stock market’s recent gyrations will chill bidders, particularly those in the middle and lower markets.
In 2010, the Keeneland September auction sold 3,059 yearlings for $198,254,900, up 3 percent despite a smaller catalog. The $64,810 average was up 7 percent, and median gained 14 percent.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - A $140,000 colt by hot Kentucky sire War Front headed the selected portion of the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society’s annual yearling sale at the Woodbine Sales Pavilion on Monday and Tuesday.
Richard Hogan, as agent, consigned the sale topper, who was purchased by William and Anne Scott. The colt is out of the Seattle Slew mare, Terrigal, who is the dam of stakes-placed Niagara Thunder.
Fasig-Tipton has cataloged 535 horses to its Eastern fall yearling sale next month in Timonium, Md.
The two-day auction will take place Oct. 4-5, with sessions starting at 10 a.m daily. Catalogs are available online at www.fasigtipton.com, in print at Fasig-Tipton offices, and on a free iPad application at www.jockeyclub.com.
The sale’s 2011 yearlings represent 208 sires and consignments from seven states.
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Grade 3 winner Alumni Hall, a half-brother to 2000 Kentucky Oaks winner Secret Status, died on June 23.
The 12-year-old A. P. Indy stallion was euthanized due to complications associated with heart failure, according to Jason LaMarche-Hunderup, manager of Norse Ridge Farms in Ontario, Canada. Alumni Hall had stood at Norse Ridge since 2008 after initially retiring to stud at Lane’s End Farm in Kentucky. He stood this year for $3,500 Canadian.
