Keeneland September's first eight days' gross surpasses all of 2010 sale

With day eight of the 13-day Keeneland September yearling sale in the books as of Monday night, gross proceeds from the startlingly strong sale had already surpassed the gross from last year’s 14-day yearling auction.

After selling $12.2 million worth of yearlings on Monday, the cumulative gross through the first eight sessions was $198,638,200 for 1,631 yearlings sold, just edging the 14-day gross for the sale last year of $198,254,900. Last year, Keeneland sold a total of 3,059 horses.

Fasig-Tipton pushes back 2-year-old sale to late March

Fasig-Tipton Sales Co. has moved the date of its annual 2-year-old in-training sale so that it will be the third major juvenile auction of the year rather than the first, according to an announcement by the company.

The sale in 2012 will be held March 26, a Monday, at Palm Meadows Training Center near Boynton Beach, Fla., with an under-tack show on March 23. This year, the sale was held on the first Thursday in March, making it the earliest 2-year-old sale in the U.S.

Keeneland sale: 'Standout' $230K Sky Mesa filly the Monday session-topper

LEXINGTON, Ky. – A filly by Sky Mesa out of the Forest Wildcat mare Floral Park brought a price of $230,000 to top the Monday session of the Keeneland September yearling sale.

Trainer Mark Casse purchased the filly as agent, but he declined to name his client. He rapidly bid the horse up to the purchase price against several bidders scattered around the sales pavilion on the eighth day of selling at the auction, the largest of its kind.

Keeneland sale: Pair of $220K colts lead day's selling

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Two colts had sold for $220,000 each to share the lead for the highest-priced horses to sell halfway through the Monday session of the marathon Keeneland September yearling sale.

The first colt, by Lion Heart out of the Royal Academy mare Silent Academy, was purchased by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, which administers all racing and breeding in the Chinese province. The colt, a half-sister to the multiple graded stakes winner Sweet August Moon, is the seventh yearling purchased by the Hong Kong Jockey Club at the sale, running its total to $967,000.

Keeneland September: Quiet American colt tops seventh session at $430,000

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Keeneland’s September yearling auction kept the financial gains rolling Sunday as the seventh of 13 sessions rang up more across-the-board increases. 

Sunday’s session was the sixth to post increases since the sale began on Sept. 11. The only session that has not outperformed last year’s figures was the second session.

Keeneland sale continues its momentum into Book 3; $425,000 Elusive Quality colt tops sixth session

Keeneland sale: Pegram pays $400k for War Pass filly

LEXINGTON, Ky. – When Keeneland’s September yearling sale resumed after Friday’s dark day, it was clear that some major buyers still were hanging around with money in their pockets.

The auction’s sixth of 13 sessions had a $400,000 session-leader at of 3  p.m. Saturday. Mike Pegram bought that filly, a daughter of first-crop sire War Pass and unraced stakes producer Avenging Tomisue, by Belong to Me. The dark bay or brown filly is a half-sister to stakes-winner Striking Tomisue. The family is that of champion sprinter Aldebaran and Grade 1 winner Good Journey.

Awesome Again colt and Unbridled's Song filly both top $1.3M at Keeneland sale

LEXINGTON – The Keeneland September yearling sale showed no signs of slowing down on its fifth day of selling through late afternoon Thursday, with a pair of million-dollar-plus yearlings providing a boost to already strong figures.

Approximately halfway through the catalog Thursday, the average price for the 100 yearlings who had sold was $177,485, a 50.5 percent increase over the average price for the entire fifth session last year. Median was $130,000, a 30 percent increase over the fifth-session median last year.
