LEXINGTON, Ky. – Keeneland’s January all-ages sale continued to post dramatic gains Tuesday at its second session, where $600,000 Magnificent Honour – a daughter of former Broodmare of the Year Better Than Honour and full sister to champion Rags to Riches –
was the day’s most expensive horse.

Her sale to an anonymous client of Blandford Bloodstock was one of many strong prices that, along with a smaller overall catalog, allowed the 2012 sale’s first two days to gross more than last year’s entire five-day auction.

Keeneland January sale looks to build on fall sale's momentum

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Keeneland’s January mixed auction, which runs Jan. 9-12, already has one positive factor: a 13 percent smaller catalog. Shorter supply helped the Thoroughbred market achieve better stability last season, and it’s one of the reasons Keeneland sale director Geoffrey Russell feels optimistic about the 2012 January sale. Another reason: the autumn’s better-than-expected sale results for both yearlings and breeding stock.
