Ocala Breeders’ yearling sale up 13 percent in both average and median

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s August yearling sale’s two open sessions in Ocala, Fla., ended Thursday with strong gains across the board.

The two open sessions sold 397 yearlings for $5,042,000, an increase of 10 percent over last year’s gross for 411 yearlings. Average and median both made significant gains, as both rose by 13 percent. Average went up from $11,201 to $12,700 and median moved from $8,000 to $9,000. Buybacks also declined slightly, falling from last year’s 23 percent to 22 percent.

Fasig-Tipton November to sell the dams of I'll Have Another, Bodemeister

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The dams of Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner I’ll Have Another and the races’ runner-up, Bodemeister, will go to auction at Fasig-Tipton’s November sale this year.

The auction will take place Nov. 5 at Fasig-Tipton’s Newtown Paddocks in Lexington.

I’ll Have Another’s dam, the 10-year-old Arch mare Arch’s Gal Edith, is in foal to Gio Ponti. Bodemeister’s dam, the graded winner Untouched Talent, is in foal to Unbridled’s Song. Untouched Talent is an 8-year-old Storm Cat mare. Both will sell through Brookdale Farm’s agency.

Monarchos on the mend from second surgery

Monarchos, the 2001 Kentucky Derby winner, is recovering well from his second colic surgery in 16 months, Nuckols Farm owner Charles Nuckols III says.

Monarchos returned to the Midway, Ky., farm on Aug. 11 after undergoing emergency surgery July 31 at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute.

Bodemeister retired with shoulder injury; will stand at WinStar

Preakness runner-up Bodemeister has been retired to stud at WinStar Farm after veterinary examinations at the Rood and Riddle equine hospital in Lexington revealed an injury to one of the major muscles in his left shoulder.

$270,000 High Chaparral colt tops Arqana session at Deauville

Ecurie des Monceaux and the Mandore International Agency topped another auction session Monday at Arqana’s Deauville yearling sale in France as selling moved into Part 2.

Mandore, paid 220,000 euros, or about $270,600, for Ecurie des Monceaux’s High Chaparral-Nightdance Sun colt on Monday to kick off the French sale’s second half. The bay colt is from the family of German champion Next Desert and is the second foal for his unraced dam.

To Honor and Serve to stand stud at Gainesway next year

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Live Oak Plantation’s To Honor and Serve, who breezed Sunday for a likely start in the Sept. 1 Woodward, will enter stud at Gainesway Farm next year.

The Lexington farm announced the deal Sunday afternoon, after To Honor and Serve went five furlongs in 1:00.91. The Bernardini 4-year-old has won five graded stakes, most importantly the Grade 1 Cigar Mile last year at Aqueduct. He has more than $1.3 million in earnings.

Redoute's Choice to shuttle from Australia to France

Redoute’s Choice, one of Australia’s leading sires, will shuttle to the Aga Khan’s Haras de Bonneval in France for the 2013 Northern Hemisphere season, the French stud has announced.

The 16-year-old Danehill horse just completed the Southern Hemisphere season at Australia’s Arrowfield Stud, where he has stood since he retired from the racetrack in 2000. He was Australia’s top sire in 2006 and 2010.

Redoute’s Choice will stand at Haras de Bonneval for 70,000 euros, or about $86,100.
