A.P. Indy era comes to end at Keeneland

An A.P. Indy filly out of Moonlight Sonata sold for $1.1 million at the Keeneland sale’s opening session.

The recent Keeneland September yearling sale marked the end of an era for what sales director Geoffrey Russell called “very much Keeneland’s horse” as the last yearlings by A.P. Indy, once a sale-topping yearling himself at Keeneland, went through the auction ring.

Keeneland September: Average jumps 23 percent on Day 9

Key figures for the Keeneland September yearling sale remained strong during the bellwether auction’s ninth day of selling on Wednesday, with average gaining 23.1 percent over the comparable day last year and median jumping 33.3 percent.

Average for 302 horses sold was $27,245 on Wednesday, compared to average of $22,127 during last year’s comparable session. Median on Wednesday was $20,000, compared to median of $15,000 last year. The buyback rate during the session was 9.6 percent, compared to a buyback rate of 13.7 percent during the comparable session last year.

Keeneland sale led by $220K Yes It’s True colt

A colt by Yes It’s True out of the winning Saint Ballado mare Wadena was the session-topper as of late afternoon Wednesday at the Keeneland September yearling sale in Lexington, Ky.

The colt was bought by James Kasparoff, agent, for $220,000 out of the consignment of Bill Reightler, acting as agent, according to Keeneland sales records. Kasparoff is a California-based trainer.

Keeneland sale: Average, median continue to climb after Day 8 of yearling sale

LEXINGTON, Ky. – A $260,000 Even the Score colt topped Tuesday’s eighth session at the Keeneland September yearling sale on a day that extended the auction’s upward trend for average and median price.

Stonestreet Stables bought the session-leading colt, a May 8 foal out of Runaway Grey. The gray or roan colt is a half-brother to Grade 3-placed Mystic Mama. Penn Sales was the consignor.

Musical Romance, Plum Pretty to go through auction rings

Bill Kaplan and Pinnacle Racing's champion sprint female Musical Romance and Peachtree Stable's 2011 Kentucky Oaks winner Plum Pretty will sell in November.

Three Chimneys Sales will consign Musical Romance to Fasig-Tipton's November auction in Lexington on Nov. 5. She is pointing for the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint and will be available for inspection there from Nov. 4. A Concorde's Tune-Candlelightdinner mare, she is 5.

Keeneland sale: Even the Score colt leads the way at $260K in eighth session

LEXINGTON, Ky. – A $260,000 Even the Score colt led early selling Tuesday at the Keeneland September yearling sale’s eighth session, which at 3:30 p.m. was on pace to post more gains.

Deputed Testamony, the 1983 Preakness winner who had been the oldest living Triple Crown race winner, died Tuesday morning at Bonita Farm in Maryland, the Baltimore Sun reported. He was 32.

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Fillies ruled the results list Monday as the Keeneland September yearling sale’s Book 4 portion got underway Monday in Lexington with more gains across the board.

Fillies held the top three spots by price on the results sheet, including the $280,000 session-leader. That was an Unbridled’s Song daughter, the first foal out of Grade 2 winner Tizfiz and a member of 1997 Horse of the Year Favorite Trick’s family.

Pelican, LLC, bought the gray or roan filly, a Jan. 17 foal last year. Baccari Bloodstock was the consignor.
