LEXINGTON, Ky. – Fasig-Tipton’s select November mixed sale will feature 180 horses in its catalog, the Kentucky auction house announced Monday.
The Nov. 5 auction will offer 2011 Horse of the Year Havre de Grace and reigning champion sprint female Musical Romance as well as the dams of the one-two finishers in the 2012 Kentucky Derby and Preakness, I’ll Have Another and Bodemeister.
Sarava, the 2002 Belmont Stakes winner, has been retired from stud to the Old Friends equine retirement haven in Georgetown, Ky., Old Friends announced Saturday. He is the first classic winner to reside at the farm.
The recent death of Cindago has left Legacy Ranch in Clements Calif., with just one Thoroughbred stallion and preliminary plans to add to that roster for the 2013 breeding season.
Cindago died on Monday after suffering a seizure, farm owner Pete Parrella said on Friday. Cindago was 9.
“He had some problems with his neck in the last three or four years and I guess it got to him,” he said. “He just had a seizure. We took him to a clinic and we couldn’t save him.”
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Giacomo, the 2005 Kentucky Derby winner, and his Grade 1-winning half-brother Tiago will return to Adena Springs Kentucky for the 2013 breeding season, the farm has announced.
Giacomo stood at Magali Farms in California this year for a $5,000 advertised fee. Tiago was advertised with the same fee at McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds but missed the 2012 breeding season while recovering from colic surgery.
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Keeneland’s November breeding stock auction catalog will comprise 3,958 horses this year, up slightly from last year’s 3,919. The auction will take place Nov. 6-16 at Keeneland’s sale pavilion in Lexington.
The catalog includes 1,890 broodmares and broodmare prospects; 1,691 weanlings; 363 horses of racing age; 4 yearlings; and 9 stallions. It also will include a single stallion share, in Adena Springs sire Macho Uno. There also are 232 covering sires represented.
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Clearsky Farms owner and Irish-born businessman Eamon Cleary, who most recently sold one of the Keeneland September yearling auction’s two Sea the Stars yearlings for $675,000, died Friday in Kentucky, farm manager Barry Robinette confirmed.
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Fasig-Tipton’s October yearling sale, planned for Oct. 22-24 in Lexington, has a record 1,254 yearlings in its catalog, the company announced Monday.
The auction will take place about a month after the Keeneland September 11-day yearling sale rang up sturdy gains in average and median; those figures rose 14 percent and 50 percent, respectively. Last year’s Fasig-Tipton October yearling sale saw huge advances in average and median as the average rose 76 percent to $24,010 and the median more than doubled to $12,000. The buyback rate was 20 percent.
Kitalpha, a full brother to Kingmambo and Miesque’s Son who was a leading sire in Zimbabwe before relocating to Kentucky, has died of cancer at age 13.
Kitalpha sired two-time Zimbabwean Horse of the Year Rebecca’s Fleet and champions Killaridge and Frogwatch before Gerry Aschinger imported him to his War Horse Place near Lexington, Ky., in 2008.
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Keeneland’s 11-day September yearling sale ended Friday with strong gains in average and median which should give sellers some confidence that the yearling market is on better footing than a year ago.
Wilko, winner of the 2004 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, will relocate from Adena Springs North in Ontario, Canada, to Highfield Stock Farm in Alberta, Canada, for the 2013 breeding season, Adena Springs announced Friday. The 10-year-old Awesome Again horse is the sire of California stakes-placed Qiaona and stakes-placed Puerto Rican runner Don Carlos R. this year. He has two racing-age crops with earnings of $397,117.
