The penultimate session of the Keeneland November breeding stock sale appeared on its way to a gain in median at its midpoint Thursday, although average price posted a modest decline.

Through 3 p.m., Keeneland reported 137 horses sold during the 10th session for gross receipts of $1,061,900. Average price early Thursday was $7,751, with a median of $5,500. Average and median finished at $9,111 and $4,500, respectively, for the 10th session in 2011.

Ashford Stud announced on Thursday that Grade 1 winner Stay Thirsty will stand his initial season at stud in 2013 for $17,500 when the foal stands and nurses. The 4-year-old Bernardini colt will retire to Ashford in Versailles, Ky., following his final career start in the Grade 1 Cigar Mile Handicap at Aqueduct on Nov. 24.

Olmodavor, sire of three 2012 stakes winners including Idle Talk, will relocate from Magali Farms in California to Rivard Stables in St. Eustache, Manitoba, Canada, for 2013. Olmadavor's fee has not been announced.

A 13-year-old A.P. Indy stallion, Olmodavor stood for $5,000 this year in California, where he currently ranks 20th in the state by progeny earnings this year. Olmodavor began his stud career at Adena Springs Farm in Kentucky.

Few breeders have experienced the sort of whirlwind Michel Zerolo did the first weekend of November.

Zerolo, the owner of Oceanic Bloodstock, watched two horses he co-bred, Zagora and Flotilla, capture Breeders’ Cup races at Santa Anita Park on Nov. 2, the Filly and Mare Turf and Juvenile Fillies Turf. Oceanic was the only breeder represented by two winners at this year’s event.

The two Kentucky mixed sales in November offered buyers their first look at foals from a number of new sires.

Twenty-two first-crop sires had weanlings cataloged at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky selected fall mixed sale and the Keeneland November breeding stock sale, including five champions, three winners of Triple Crown races, and two Breeders’ Cup winners.

While the mixed sales give buyers a chance to get in on the ground floor with a young stallion’s offspring, the potential comes with the risk of the unknown when buying foals of unproven stallions.

The Fasig-Tipton and Keeneland November breeding stock results reveal that Kentucky’s most important mixed sales remain a truly global marketplace, especially for higher-quality stock. International agents say this year’s bullish foreign buying has a lot to do with their strength of currency and a continuing deep respect for U.S. bloodlines, even as overseas racing authorities have urged stricter U.S. medication policies for race day.

Northview announced its stallion roster and fees for 2013 on Thursday, headlined by leading regional sires Not For Love, Jump Start, and Smarty Jones, as well as E Dubai, sire of Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Fort Larned.

Northview will stand eight stallions at Northview Stallion Station in Chesapeake City, Md., and six at Northview in Peach Bottom, Pa. Northview lowered fees for six of its returning stallions.

B. Wayne Hughes’ Spendthrift Farm released its 2013 stallion roster on Wednesday, and announced that all fees for its 11 stallions at its Lexington, Ky., farm and for its four regional stallions will remain the same as in 2012.

Malibu Moon, ninth on the general sire list, headlines Spendthrift’s Kentucky roster and will stand for $70,000. His progeny have earned more than $7.2 million this year, led by Grade 1 winner Eden’s Moon, Grade 2 winners Kauai Katie and Prospective, and Grade 3 winners Winding Way, Moonwalk, and Bobina.

After a day of gains fueled by the sale of young racing prospects on Tuesday, the Keeneland November breeding stock sale posted declines in average and median during its ninth session on Wednesday.

A total of 254 horses sold Wednesday for total receipts of $2,872,300. Both declined compared with the ninth session of the 2011 sale, when 260 horses sold for $4,391,700.

Wednesday’s average price was $11,308, a 33.1 percent decline compared with $16,891 in 2011. The session’s median fell 30 percent, from $10,000 to $7,000.

Ashford Stud released its 2013 stallion roster on Wednesday, and increased stud fees for successful young sires Scat Daddy and Majestic Warrior while maintaining the fee for leading sire Giant’s Causeway at $85,000. The Versailles, Ky., farm, a division of the international Coolmore operation, will have two new stallions for 2013, champion Hansen and Grade 1 winner Stay Thirsty.
